Battle Royale Round Six – The Second Coming

StarCityGames.com - Battle Royale!

Battle Royale! When this series was announced I was quick to jump onboard. As the fateful email finally arrived, I was extremely excited and thrilled to take part. But I had a problem: I had never played Constructed MTGO. What’s a guy to do?

Battle Royale Round Six — Bloom in the Room

StarCityGames.com - Battle Royale!

In the last round of the Battle Royale, I beat Talen Lee and his mana-heavy Rome deck. My cheap Glare deck drew everything it needed, while Talen drew land after land, game after game. For this round, against Evan Erwin, I wanted to play the same deck… but I couldn’t.

SCG Daily – A Deck a Day: Time and Tide Wait for Nomad

After two straight days of random creature deck-ness, you aren’t about to see me slow down. We might as well see this theme to fruition. For those who are new to the series, or forgetful, I randomly select a creature type from the Mistform Ultimus Watch on the Wizards website. Then, I build a deck around whatever creature type I select. Monday I had selected everybody’s favorite creature type — the carriage deck. Then on Tuesday, I build a deck of Volvers. What will I select today?

The Other Side: Battle Green

I hate beating a dead horse. I know that I lost the Battle Royale match to Talen a couple of weeks ago, and that’s fine. I got played, it happens. However, I thought that the deck I brought to table could be nurtured into a competitor in this Standard format, so I kept beating the proverbial dead horse. I should have given up. A lot of time could have been spent in a better way, like tuning the Solar Flare mirror match, or actually doing homework for a math class that I am sure to fail.

Magic Online Musings: This Week on MTGO #28

Read The Blisterguy... every Wednesday at
StarCityGames.com!

Blisterguy shuns the usual MTGO content, opting instead for more hilarity involving photography and card desecration. He tells the tale of his attempt to qualify for Pro Tour: Kobe with his signature hilarious style…

SCG Daily – A Deck a Day: Victorious Volver

I really enjoyed my Carriage deck from yesterday, so I figured that I would continue the theme today. I will select a creature type at random, and then build a theme deck around it. What amazing creature type was selected? Volvers.

Under the Coverage: U.S. Nationals 2006

As detailed in an article that I won’t link because it’ll depress you, I am now an editor for the Pro Tour coverage team. Although many people think that I got the position because I’m a filthy lucksack, it’s actually based entirely on my merits (i.e., Ted Knutson thinks I’m cool).

Chickenscratch – What You Should Know About Phyrexian Etchings

Phyrexian Etchings: it’s good. Really good. Quite frighteningly good. In fact, let’s make this interesting:

Phyrexian Etchings is — situationally – more broken than Necropotence.

Have I got your attention now? Good.

The Weekly Guild Build: Back From Europe To Discuss Death

Read The Ferrett... every Monday at
StarCityGames.com!The Ferrett returns from Europe to discuss… death. Dying formats, dying comics, dying relatives, and endless, endless flights on planes. Which is not the standard method of writing “Welcome back” Magic articles, but hey! It has Ravnica cards, and talks about what it’s like to stay with Editor Craig Stevenson! What more do you want?

SCG Daily – Excess Baggage

There is more to winning than winning. I played in my first Pro Tour almost five years ago. At the time I was one of the best players in my area. But I had no business at all playing in that tournament, and (though I didn’t know it) had absolutely no shot of making any money whatsoever. This article is about trying, with more or less varying degrees of success, to get rid of the extraneous baggage that keeps a good player from becoming great.

The Block That Came In From The Cold: Coldsnap and the New ALICE Block

The release of Coldsnap means many things. It’s going to throw a monkey wrench into the works of Standard. It also means that I’m going to have to redo my set binders yet again. But what really got my thinking cap all a-twitter is that there can finally be an honest-to-goodness Ice Age Block tournaments without the three-Standard-worthy-cards abomination that was Homelands.

Brr, I Can Feel a Coldsnap Coming On…

Craig “The Professor” Jones originally submitted this article, covering his experiences at the Coldsnap prerelease, some time ago. We present it now, updated with new thoughts on the Coldsnap Limited format, as a fine tool for those entering the MTGO Coldsnap Release Leagues. Prof also shares some Coldsnap Draft stories with his usual humorous style. If you’ve not read any Craig Jones before, you’re in for a treat!
