Friday, March 12th – The more Standard changes, the more it stays the same. With the StarCityGames.com Standard Open in Indianapolis this coming Saturday, the world is poised to see how many Jund decks make the Top 8. Manuel Bucher played Jund at Pro Tour: San Diego, and today he takes us through his tournament games and sideboarding strategies.
Friday, March 12th – If you are not playing Dredge in Legacy, you are doing it unbelievably wrong. The deck routinely deploys 9/9s on turn 2 or 3 and brings some number of 2/2s to the party for value. While doing this, you get to Cabal Therapy your opponent two or three times, and if for some reason that isn’t good enough, you also have unlimited 3/1s that leave Zombies behind when they die.

Thursday, March 11th – Today I want to build a few decks and generally stretch my deck-building muscles. Like normal, I will probably use some new cards and some old standards. There’s nothing wrong with adding Harmonize to a Green deck or Commander Eesha to a defensive White deck. However, I also want to use new cards that usually don’t get a day in the sun.

Thursday, March 11th – Patrick Chapin once wrote an article about Magic etiquette. In that piece, he goes in-depth and discusses the importance of shaking hands after games, and how crucial it is to realize that the phrase “good games†means “thanks for not cheating or being shady†as opposed to “thanks for not getting mana-screwed and actually giving me a run for my money.†I really enjoyed Patrick’s article, but I feel like there is still more to be said.

Thursday, March 11th – Last week, we had an all-time high in tournament participation. It got me thinking about how Magic has changed since I started playing late last century. We know what Magic is like now – let’s compare that to Magic from a decade ago. In some ways, it was radically different. In other ways – not so much.
Wednesday, March 10th – In a recent article, Patrick Chapin observed that he is no longer as young as he once was. He asserted that he was losing games because he was already worn out when he sat down to play. The Innovator changed his behavior across the board when it came to preparing for Magic tournaments, and has said that he felt those alterations have contributed to his recent high finish at Pro Tour: San Diego. I am certain he is right.
