SCG Daily – A Deck a Day: Mail Carrier

Welcome to the final installment of the random creature challenge, the game where I choose a random creature type and then have to build a deck around it. From Carriages to Crocodiles, I’ve had to build some wild decks. I use the Mistform Ultimus Watch on the Wizards homepage to randomly choose this creature type. Carriages, Volvers, Nomads, and Crocodiles have all been chosen. What will be next?

Heartbeat Updated

Today, Rogier brings us a comprehensive article describing the thought-process behind Heartbeat in Coldsnap Standard. His new build is surprising, but the advice he offers is unmissable. Still blinded by combo madness? Rogier is here to help.

Battle Royale Round Six — Bloom in the Room

StarCityGames.com - Battle Royale!

In the last round of the Battle Royale, I beat Talen Lee and his mana-heavy Rome deck. My cheap Glare deck drew everything it needed, while Talen drew land after land, game after game. For this round, against Evan Erwin, I wanted to play the same deck… but I couldn’t.

Battle Royale Round Six – The Second Coming

StarCityGames.com - Battle Royale!

Battle Royale! When this series was announced I was quick to jump onboard. As the fateful email finally arrived, I was extremely excited and thrilled to take part. But I had a problem: I had never played Constructed MTGO. What’s a guy to do?

The Kitchen Table #146: The Casual Metagame #3

Hello and welcome again to the newest installment of our weekly trek through the five corners of casual Magic. I am examining each Archetype in an article, and then looking more closely at the Subtypes within that Archetype. I’ll also build a quick deck for each Subtype in order to demonstrate what I am discussing with a solid example.

SCG Daily – A Deck a Day: Afterwhile, Crocodile

As you may know, I’ve been taking a random creature type and then forcing myself to create a deck around said type. On Monday, I pulled everybody’s favorite creature type — the carriage! On Tuesday, it was the Volvers’ turn. On Wednesday, nomads were in the spotlight. Who will get picked on today?

Tribal Bible #3 – Your Halo Slipping Down to Your Clown Shoes? Then You’re Not Quite Yeti Yet

Welcome to Tribal Bible #3 of the Impossibly Long Title. I’m going to hope the trend of these article names doesn’t continue, or by the time we get to #7 or so, the title will be longer than the actual article itself. That aside, we’ve got three Coldsnap-enabled tribes to do this week, so let’s get busy.

The North American Challenge – A Tournament Report *1st*

For the North American Challenge, Ben turned his back on the Tron deck that sent him to Worlds… turning instead to the powerful Erayo Ninja deck that ravaged German Nationals. Mr Lundquist, heralded as “the future of American Magic,” took home all the marbles, swinging for two and drawing a card all the while. This interesting report chronicles the highs and lows from each match.

The Other Side: Battle Green

I hate beating a dead horse. I know that I lost the Battle Royale match to Talen a couple of weeks ago, and that’s fine. I got played, it happens. However, I thought that the deck I brought to table could be nurtured into a competitor in this Standard format, so I kept beating the proverbial dead horse. I should have given up. A lot of time could have been spent in a better way, like tuning the Solar Flare mirror match, or actually doing homework for a math class that I am sure to fail.

SCG Daily – A Deck a Day: Time and Tide Wait for Nomad

After two straight days of random creature deck-ness, you aren’t about to see me slow down. We might as well see this theme to fruition. For those who are new to the series, or forgetful, I randomly select a creature type from the Mistform Ultimus Watch on the Wizards website. Then, I build a deck around whatever creature type I select. Monday I had selected everybody’s favorite creature type — the carriage deck. Then on Tuesday, I build a deck of Volvers. What will I select today?
