Friday, January 9th – Hello everybody, and welcome to the return of the Magic Show! This week we’re going through all of the footage shot in Memphis last month for the World Championships. Thursday, January 8th – I was staying with my in-laws in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula over the New Year’s weekend. That’s snow country, and it snowed. Officially, we got 20” between Friday evening and Sunday noon. Other than some cross country skiing, curling up in front of the fire and eating, I played Magic online. My goal was to play as much Magic, in as many different formats, as possible.

Wednesday, January 7th – As long time readers may know, I have this ever growing Highlander monstrosity that is probably over 1300 or 1400 cards by now. I call it Abe’s Deck of Happiness and Joy. I play it a lot, because I love it. I have three long boxes of purple metallic sleeved cards, all foil basic lands, and foils of some of my favorite cards.

Tuesday, January 6th – Last year, Dave laid out five ways that budget players could stretch their dollar all year long. Did he follow those resolutions himself? Or did he break them as quickly as his 2009 resolution to avoid chocolate?

Tuesday, January 6th – I remember cracking the first Onslaught pack I ever opened, only to see this awe-inspiring Blue guy staring right back at me. His eyes flashed with energy; his hands melded into an inferno of like ectoplasm that seemingly wanted to engulf him, swallow him fully. And then I looked at the text box: Draw three cards.

Monday, January 5th – On today’s episode of The Magic Sock podcast, there’s talk about a slew of Conflux rumors and a walkthrough of everybody’s favorite Extended robots, Affinity!

Monday, January 5th – The Judge seminars were all informative, with some good clean fun mixed in. The high point for me was during John Carter’s “Q&A with the New Judge Coordinator” seminar when Paul Smith from the UK asked Carter what he thought of my column. The response was pure gold: “As it turns out, Riki does in fact rule.”

Monday, January 5th – We venture into the wild territories of Odyssey and Onslaught Block to find the cheapest, most efficient multiplayer cards for buck. And here we encounter a problem: This is when Wizards finally started to get casual cards.
