Constructed Criticism – The Best Deck You’ve Never Heard Of

Wednesday, June 23rd – A few days ago, I was playing in an Online PTQ, watching replays between rounds, when a weird deck caught my eye. I was intrigued from the start from a few interesting card choices, as well as his undefeated record going into the last round of swiss play. Overrun? Siege-Gang Commander? Beastmaster Ascension? It seemed like a real beating and I was definitely looking for a fresh start in Standard.
Fishing Lessons – PTQ Video Walkthrough: Turboland

Tuesday, June 22nd – I decided to do something a little different this week. Instead of writing a normal article, I recorded my Magic Online PTQ matches and commented over them. There are a lot of tricky plays to the deck and I felt like there were a ton of lessons to be learned from each match I played, so I felt it was a good idea to share it with the public.
Legacy’s Allure – No More Mystical Tutor?

Tuesday, June 22nd – Legacy and Extended saw a big shakeup with the lastest Banned List announcement, and already players are alternately decrying the death of two formats and innovating up new lists to succeed. In this week’s article, Doug lends a grounded perspective on what all this realistically means for Legacy players and analyzes each banning and unbanning in depth. See why the Extended change is good for Legacy players and understand what decks are winners and losers in the wake of Mystical Tutor’s banning. Find out what to substitute for your Mystical Tutors and how to get the most out of your Grim Monoliths in this week’s Legacy’s Allure!
Removed From Game – Removed From Extended

Tuesday, June 22nd – With an ear close to the ground, you might have known this was coming. As far back as the closing months of 2009, there were rumors surfacing around various forums that Extended was not in a particularly healthy place, and that Wizards were contemplating a shakeup in the format that sits in an odd place in the structure of the game as a whole.
Flow of Ideas – Sideboarding on the Fly

Monday, June 21st – Magic is a game of adaptation. They juke left, so you need to move left. They set up a screen, and you need to slide by the pick. They bring Kor Firewalkers to their side of the table, and so you need to bring Doom Blades to yours. But what happens when things don’t go as planned?
The Long and Winding Road – Reanimator, Thopters, and a Requiem for Mystical

Monday, June 21st – As much fun as it is to play with Reanimator, you don’t want to put all your eggs in one basket when it comes to Legacy, especially if the DCI is going to annihilate archetypes willy-nilly. If you watched the GGS Live coverage from Philly through to the end, you heard me say that my back-up deck for Philly was an Enlightened Tutor / Counterbalance deck similar to the one AJ Sacher used to make Top 8 earlier this year…
You Lika The Juice? – Stoopid Jace

Friday, June 18th – Jace has seriously warped the format; you either play Jace or play threats that Jace can’t really bounce for profit (haste, comes-into-play effects, Planeswalkers). Or, ideally, you stuff both into your deck. Even frickin’ Baneslayer Angel isn’t even all that good anymore unless you’re playing Jace yourself to trump your opponent’s Jace.
The Magic Show #193 – 2010 Community Cup & Forsythe Interview

Friday, June 18th – Hello everybody, and welcome to another edition of the Magic Show. This week we’re live in Seattle, broadcasting from Wizards of the Coast headquarters for the 2010 Community Cup. I did my part to ensure I came home a champion, and all sorts of Magic Online players got goodies because of it. We talk to Head of Magic R&D Aaron Forsythe, new kid on the WotC block (and StarCityGames alum) Zac Hill, get a view of Seattle, and more! I also have my complete interview with Aaron Forsythe for your viewing pleasure! Some of the most fascinating 20 minutes you’ll spend this week.
Ideas Unbound – Blocking Warriors in Seattle: A StarCityGames.com Open Report

Friday, June 18th – I mentioned a UGW Daze aggro deck that I’d been working on during finals, and was roundly condemned by everyone. Cedric asked me why I wasn’t just playing Dredge; I told him that while game 1 against Reanimator was pretty good, it was really hard to win after boarding when they set up Blazing Archon with a Coffin Purge for your Angel of Despair, and I figured I’d have to win two matches against Reanimator to win the tournament.
The Chump Block – Two PTQs: When 9-0 Isn’t Enough

Friday, June 18th – I had the pleasure of playing in two PTQs these past couple of days. One was held at Misty Mountain in the Madison area on Sunday, while the other was held in the vast reaches of Cyberspace that is MTGO this Tuesday. I ended up doing reasonably well in both, ending up in 11th and 3rd place respectively.
The Kitchen Table #342 – The Compendium of Alternate Formats #14: Legendary Magic
Thursday, June 17th – Legendary Magic is about the use and abuse of legendary creatures and other permanents. From their first introduction, Legends have been one of the most important parts of the Magic fabric. These cards are supposed to represent the big and the bad, the graceful and the awe-inspiring, the people of myth and lore. They inspire comics, books, and other cards besides themselves. These are the characters of our story, told through cards.
