Yawgmoth’s Whimsy #329 – Decks for the Ultimate Standard Tournament

The StarCityGames.com Open Series comes to St. Louis!Thursday, June 17th – Last year, coming into the summer doldrums, I started thinking about a tournament pitting the best Standard decks of all time against each other. Magic has changed over the years – but are the best decks better, or worse, or just different? How would Next Level Bant fare against a deck from a decade ago, like Replenish or Sabre Bargain?

Fishing Lessons – Coming Back from the Bottom

The StarCityGames.com Open Series comes to St. Louis!
Wednesday, June 16th – The point of this article is not brag or complain or just to talk about myself. It is to help everyone else who may have similar issues, as well as to give everyone a better idea of what someone with these problems is going through. There will be no decklists or draft tips. It is an introspective case study on myself.

Thirst for Knowledge – Landstill In Legacy

The StarCityGames.com Open Series comes to St. Louis!
Wednesday, June 16th – Last week I spoke briefly about Lewis Laskin’s new take on the Landstill archetype from the StarCityGames.com Legacy Open in Philadelphia, but now that I’ve had time to run some games with it I feel it’s only fair that I do the deck justice and talk about some match-ups and strategy.

Constructed Criticism – Grinding in your PJs: Revisited

The StarCityGames.com Open Series comes to St. Louis!
Wednesday, June 16th – This week on Constructed Criticism, I wanted to revisit an older article all about playing Magic Online PTQs. Today is no different, and I plan on giving a play by play as it happens, giving you some insight to the deck I’m playing, as well as the matchups and opponents I play against.

Feature Article – StarCityGames.com Standard Open Philadelphia: A Winner’s Report

The StarCityGames.com Open Series comes to St. Louis!
Tuesday, June 15th – I’ve been running Bant since Lorwyn rotated, and had made the decision to switch to Mythic Conscription quite early. After running hot in another recent tournament, I grew a newfound confidence for Bant’s position in the current metagame. I really like the deck’s position in the Jund and U/W match-up.

Embracing The Chaos – I Played It!

The StarCityGames.com Open Series comes to St. Louis!
Tuesday, June 15th – They built it. I played it. And it made me feel dirty. Last week I listed the Isperia deck, and this week I took it to EDH League. I made a few changes, some out of necessity, some out of desire.

The Chump Block – G/U Mana Ramp in Standard

The StarCityGames.com Open Series comes to St. Louis!
Tuesday, June 15th – I’ve come to a slow acknowledgment on a self-truth about what types of Magic the Gathering decks I enjoy. I can subsist on some attacking and enjoy the occasional draw-go styles of control, but by far my absolute favorite decks to play are extraordinarily annoying.

Round 5: Jeff Cunningham vs. Brad Nelson

The fifth round feature match was a behemoth between two of the game’s titans: Jeff Cunningham representing the old school and Brad Nelson representing the new school.

Flow of Ideas – Can’t Sleep, Wizards Will Eat Me: The Community Cup

The StarCityGames.com Open Series comes to St. Louis!
Monday, June 14th – I have been to a lot of tournaments, and I’m used to the lifestyle. This is nothing like any other tournament. You are playing weird formats, against WoTC employees, in WoTC’s headquarters. You are working together every round, focusing not only on your game but your teammates’ as well. You are pooling as many resources as possible to be successful. Simply put, you are eating, living, and breathing Magic.

The Long & Winding Road – Attacking in Legacy, Part 2: Winning an SCG Open is Awesome!

The StarCityGames.com Open Series comes to St. Louis!
Monday, June 14th – At the SCG Standard Open on Saturday, I engaged all of my opponents in honest, pleasant, human interaction, to the extent they allowed me to do so. I’m happy to report that they all seemed willing to banter back and forth, and that made my rounds enjoyable, even though the actual games were grueling and my results were poor. In fact, I considered skipping Sunday…

Removed From Game – Theft, Temptation, and How to Avoid Both

The StarCityGames.com Open Series comes to St. Louis!
Monday, June 14th – In a refreshingly joke-free edition, it’s time to look at the eye-poppingly large rewards on offer to potential thieves at large-scale Magic events. It may be illegal, but the economics make such nefariousness inevitable, and it’s up to us to make sure a fool and his money are not soon parted. Featuring such awesome words as purloin, rifle, and squinticate, this is a guide to keeping what’s yours, yours.

The Kitchen Table #341 – Finding Guiltfeeders

The StarCityGames.com Open Series comes to St. Louis!
Friday, June 11th – Hello folks, and welcome to another entry in the column that gives you casual lovin’ each week. This week I wanted to talk about winning the game by attacking.

Practical Legacy – Memorable Plays and Complications

The StarCityGames.com Open Series comes to St. Louis!
Friday, June 11th – The arrival of the StarCityGames.com Philadelphia Legacy Open was another chance to play high level Legacy for hefty prizes. It is the type of event where better decks and better player prosper because the competition is intense, and a player needs every advantage to pull out close games. Unlike other events, I had already decided awhile back to play Entomb Ichorid.
