Star City “Power Nine” Series Goes “Ten Proxy”!
Effectively immediately, the Star City “Power Nine” Vintage Tournament Series will allow for the use of up to ten (10) proxies instead of five (5). After researching this issue for months, we firmly believe that this change will increase the number of Star City “Power Nine” Vintage Tournament Series competitors and have an overall positive effect on the event itself.
Leveling the Playing Field
Although legal, scouting obviously gives those who do it sizable advantages over those who don’t. Because those with teammates or playing faster decks can utilize scouting more effectively than those without teammates or playing slower decks, we have long-debated whether or not we should allow opponents to view each others decklist before each Top 8 match begins. Some of us opposed this idea, believing that it could ruin surprise tech easily overlooked by scouts. Others fought vehemently for it, using Pro Tour and Grand Prix protocol to defend their position. After much debate, we have decided to begin revealing deck archetypes, but not decklists, to each Top 8 competitor. This will begin with our May 21, 2005 Richmond, VA event.
Quality Judges
Our players deserve the best, and we’re not going to disappoint. All Star City “Power Nine” Vintage Tournaments now use a Level 3, or very experienced and qualified Level 2, to Head Judge each event.
If you want to gain experience by working a major event under an L3 Judge, please contact Matt Villamaino and we’ll do our best to make it happen.

… And more!
On Saturday, June 11th, everyone listed above will be coming to Rochester, NY to participate in the biggest Vintage event of the year… “Star City P9 Rochester – Shooting Stars”! Will these current/former Magic: the Gathering pros be able to dominate the Vintage format as they have so many others? More importantly, will they be able to do so when the rest of the field is gunning for them?
Here’s the deal.
Many have often wondered what would happen if Pro Tour competitors ever decided to throw their hats into the Vintage arena. Would their years of high-level competitive Magic: the Gathering experience be able to compensate for their lack of experience in the format? At “Star City P9 Rochester – Shooting Stars”, that question will finally be answered!
Did you ever think you’d see Zvi Mowshowitz vs. Kevin Cron? Osyp Lebedowicz vs. Ben Kowal? Chad Ellis vs. Andy Probasco? Those are just a few examples of the super-cool matches that may happen at this event! However, it gets even better!
Although the “Stars” will simply be competing alongside everyone else, each will receive three custom-designed t-shirts featuring their own Yawgatog-created imagery. One of those T-shirts is for the “star” to keep, but the other two are going to be given away to the first two players to defeat them in the Swiss! Beating them probably won’t be easy, but what Vintage player wouldn’t want a shirt proclaiming to the world that they had beaten Ben “The Most Hated Man in Vintage” Bleiweiss?
Can’t make the trip? Don’t worry. StarCityGames.com is giving you a front row seat to all of the action!
“Star City P9 Rochester – Shooting Stars” will be covered LIVE on the StarCityGames.com website as an exclusive Premium feature! If you’ve been considering a membership, I can guarantee you that this event coverage alone will be worth the cost of the entire subscription.
Ten proxies allowed. An insane prize payout. Current and former pros take on Vintage.
