Magical Hack – Fae-r and Loathing In Extended

Friday, January 9th – With two articles in a row dedicated to a pet-deck strategy of delving into The Rock in Extended, I feel as if I’ve wasted enough of my readership’s time on a strategy that will in all likelihood prove to be second-rate. While I’m content to still play with the deck and test it in the meantime, hearing about it is not going to get anyone else the kind of insight that playing with it is getting me… so to discuss Extended, I’d rather move on to different pastures.

You Lika The Juice? – Elder Dragon Forsythe

Read Bennie Smith every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Friday, January 9th – This week I’m pleased to present a very special interview with Wizards of the Coast’s Magic Director, Aaron Forsythe. When I heard he was gunslinging some Elder Dragon Highlander decks at Worlds, I had hopes he’d be willing to share some of his thoughts on the format with my readers here – and sure enough, he brought the noise!

Sullivan Library – Updating the Boat Brew

Read Adrian Sullivan every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Thursday, January 8th – Red/White Reveillark, christened “Boat Brew,” has been a strong yet underappreciated Standard option for a few months now. With metagames shifting every week, Adrian Sullivan updates his build to reflect the dynamic nature of the format. Sharing extensive card evaluations and strategic tips, he states his case for, in his opinion, the current Best Deck in Standard.

Drafting With LSV – Shards of Alara #14

Draft with Luis Scott-Vargas every day... At StaCityGames.com!
Thursday, January 8th – Canadian maestro Rich Hoaen has downed tools for good, as work and real life intrudes apace. As a replacement, we have Luis Scott-Vargas, who shares each pick from a Magic Online 8-4 queue. He talks us through the difficult decisions in the forums… do you agree with his choices?

Unlocking Legacy – Elf Survival

Read Legacy articles every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Thursday, January 8th – Hello everyone, and Happy 2009! It’s a pleasure to be back in the driver’s seat, writing for you all as we head on toward the third American Legacy Grand Prix, and hopefully I’ll provide you all a little insight into the format before that event to help you choose your deck wisely.

Yawgmoth’s Whimsy #257 – Magic in the Northwoods

Read Peter Jahn... at StarCityGames.com!
Thursday, January 8th – I was staying with my in-laws in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula over the New Year’s weekend. That’s snow country, and it snowed. Officially, we got 20” between Friday evening and Sunday noon. Other than some cross country skiing, curling up in front of the fire and eating, I played Magic online. My goal was to play as much Magic, in as many different formats, as possible.

One Step Ahead – Two-Headed Matchup Article 2 – Zoo versus Faeries

Buy, Sell and Trade with StarCityGames.com at Grand Prix Los Angeles!
Wednesday, January 7th – Yesterday, Luis Scott-Vargas walked us through a recent Extended testing session with Gerry Thompson, in which Gerry ran Zoo and LSV played Faeries. Today, we have Gerry’s take on the proceedings. With both of these decks looking to make a considerable splash in the coming PTQ season, get the inside scoop on the matchup from two of the game’s top Constructed minds!

Deep Analysis – R/G Haterator in Extended

Buy, Sell and Trade with StarCityGames.com at Grand Prix Los Angeles!
Wednesday, January 7th – Packing considerable hate for the main strategies in a given metagame has been a noble tradition in Extended formats past. Mike Flores brought us Green/White Haterator, Zac Hill created Green/Red Terraforce… and now Richard Feldman brings us an exciting amalgam of the two! Could this be the next big thing in Extended? Read on to find out!

Deconstructing Constructed – Loaming Through the Countryside

Wednesday, January 7th – I’m rather excited about the current Extended format. Instead of being dominated by Elves, Dredge, or Counterbalance decks, we now have a format with legitimate options everywhere on the metagame clock, and where the current top decks all have legitimate weaknesses.

The Kitchen Table #267 – Highlander Happiness and Joy

Read Abe Sargent every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Wednesday, January 7th – As long time readers may know, I have this ever growing Highlander monstrosity that is probably over 1300 or 1400 cards by now. I call it Abe’s Deck of Happiness and Joy. I play it a lot, because I love it. I have three long boxes of purple metallic sleeved cards, all foil basic lands, and foils of some of my favorite cards.
