Friday, September 4th – Today, I wrap up the EDH primer and do a walk through in how I go about building an EDH deck. This three-part series was written with people new to the format in mind, but with the hope that even veteran players will find parts interesting and thought-provoking.
Friday, September 4th – I’ve been addicted to EDH for about 7 weeks now. I used to be a pretty hard-core spike. I’d play the best deck, and spend an entire week contemplating one card in the deck versus other options. I enjoyed winning above all else. I spent hours upon hours at work trying to break what are supposed to be casual formats (Like Emperor Peasant Vintage) because there were prizes involved.

Thursday, September 3rd – The PTQ in Vancouver this weekend was my last chance. It was go big, or go home. I wanted that victory, that qualification for Austin, more than anything. I decided that I was going to do whatever it took to win that slot. I not only decided to do something, I “docided†to do it: I put action in to match my words.
Thursday, September 3rd – There’s a fine balance that must be maintained between theory and practice. If you spend too much time doing, then there are many missed opportunities to better understand what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. If you spend too much time thinking, too much time theorizing about your potential actions, then it’s easy to overthink yourself into the trap of doing absolutely nothing and letting all that theory rot from disuse. So it goes with Magic – both in playing, and in judging.
Thursday, September 3rd – I spent some time on the drive in thinking about why I’m nowhere near as good at Magic as I used to be. The short answer is time – time I haven’t got. However, I still remember what you need to do to qualify and make the tour. That hasn’t changed. What’s changed is my ability to work at it hard enough.

However, a last-minute audible saw him shift to an intriguing Five-Color Orzhov build. Today, he talks us through his tournament, and his Top 8 performance at the Sunday PTQ.
Wednesday, September 2nd – After my finish at last weekend’s PTQ playing Reveillark, I obviously felt well-poised to take down the next one. I moved back to Grand Rapids to go to school this week, and so the trip down to Cincinnati was ever further than it would have been from the east side. Nevertheless, I made the six-plus hour trek to Kentucky with immense optimism.

In Magic, we have created a variety of types of players, such as Johnny and Spike, or casual and tournament, and so forth. We have used a variety of ways to delineate between various players. What I want to do today is to take a standard personality test, have you take it, then talk about what it means, and how it might impact your gaming.
