Monday, January 18th – As most of you know, I’ve advocated Zoo as one of the best decks in Extended since I think it is both versatile and aggressive. These two qualities combine to apply a ton of pressure to the sluggish combo and control decks of the format, forcing them to attempt to go off too early, or find answers before you nail the coffin shut.

Thursday, January 14th – I love all colors in EDH, although clearly not equally, since last week’s list was mostly Jund. Jund strategies, which involve mostly savage aggression, are definitely my style, but more subtle and tricksy strategies aren’t lost on me. My original Generals, however, were WUG: first Arcades Sabboth and then Phelddagrif.
Thursday, January 14th – Magic is a game of high level decision-making and resource managements, but it is also, at its core, a game defined by making the best decision in the time possible. Whether choosing which creatures to send into combat by pushing them into the red zone of a feature match table or sliding creatures across the uneven concrete in the schoolyard, there is only so much time you can take to make a play.
Thursday, January 14th – I want to look at the top decks from the recent StarCityGames Open Weekends. More specifically, I want to see just how much more diverse the Legacy field is from the Standard field. I also want to see just how dominant Jund can be. Finally, I’ll add something about Extended. It is the current PTQ format, after all.
Thursday, January 14th – I’m sure by now everyone heard about the tumultuous Top 8 playoffs this past weekend in Dallas/Fort Worth at the StarCityGames.com Legacy Open. Not only was I there, but I was Head Judging the event. Ultimately this means that I had to assign both Game Losses that players received during those rounds. A lot of people are talking about those situations, and there is a lot of misinformation and vitriol, both to the players and toward the judges at the event. That’s why I asked SCG for the opportunity to set the record straight.
Wednesday, January 13th – At the SCG Dallas / Fort Worth Open weekend, Kyle Sanchez was in a do-or-die mood. He dropped his eccentric Hedron Crab deck at the last moment, opting instead for a pink-sleeved Boros Bushwhacker build… and his tournament result, alongside many stories full of fun, served to revitalize his view of the game we all love…
