Down And Dirty – Waltzing Around Worldwake

Grand Prix: Oakland!

Wednesday, February 3rd – With the Worldwake prerelease behind us, it’s time to examine the cards that made an impression last weekend. Kyle Sanchez takes a look at a selection of cool new spells that caught his eye, suggesting that the best card in the set may not be a certain planeswalker at all…

At the Gathering – Worldwake the Dead

Grand Prix: Oakland!

Wednesday, February 3rd – Last Tuesday was a day of Extended testing, and we discovered a few things. First, All-In-Red is a lot of fun to play, but way too swingy to want to use in a real tournament. If my goal were to make Day 2, it’s a viable contender, as the power and a little luck could allow you to go 4-2, assuming you can scrounge up 3 byes.

Thirst for Knowledge – Worldwake!

Grand Prix: Oakland!

Wednesday, February 3rd – It never ceases to amaze me just how many people spend the weeks leading up to the release of a new set complaining about how bad it is, especially with small sets. I mean, what is it about small sets that makes Magic players so narrow-minded? After this weekend’s prerelease, I’m quite convinced that the set is far from underdeveloped, and a long way from being bad in Constructed.

The Kitchen Table #323 – The Alara Block Foil Packs

Grand Prix: Oakland!

Wednesday, February 3rd – Hello folks, and welcome back to the article that explores the casual side of Magic-dom. Today I want to simply talk about the All Foil packs that were made by WoTC. Are they worth buying? What else comes in them? Are the tokens foil?

Embracing The Chaos – Reins of Thraximundar

Grand Prix: Oakland!

Tuesday, February 2nd – On the Thursday before the prerelease, week 2 of the Armada Games EDH League came up faster than I could prepare for, so I had to shelve my plans to run Lord of Tresserhorn out there (I hope I have time to put him together, completely with Worldwake cards). Keeping with the Grixis theme, I decided to run Thraximundar, who I also hadn’t updated in a while…

Black Magic – Drafting Zendikar with Worldwake

Grand Prix: Oakland!

Tuesday, February 2nd – With the world of Drafting turning its focus towards the Zendikar / Zendikar / Worldwake format, players are clamoring for the inside scoop on the top playable commons and uncommon in the new set. Today, Sam Black goes beyond such mere card rankings, and investigates precisely how the third pack from Worldwake informs your drafting of Zendikar for packs one and two…

Legacy’s Allure – Building Gifts for a Merfolk/Zoo Metagame

Grand Prix: Oakland!

Tuesday, February 2nd – Inspired by the consistent success of both Merfolk and Zoo in Legacy, Doug presents a deck that attempts to tackle both of those decks by treating them as poles of the metagame. Using the powerful Gifts Ungiven and a relatively new win condition, his deck attempts to wallop the common aggro decks while maintaining flexibility in the face of the diversity of the format. Find out how to build a deck that mixes board control with combo kills in this week’s Legacy’s Allure!

Sullivan Library – How To Beat A Firewalker With Flame

Grand Prix: Oakland!

Tuesday, February 2nd – Aggressive Red decks have existed in a multitude of forms for many Magical years… but does a certain Worldwake uncommon creature spell doom for the fans of the flame? Adrian Sullivan, a long-time proponent of Red strategies, investigates a selection of ways to combat the Firewalking menace.

Constructed Criticism – The New Blue Zoo

Grand Prix: Oakland!

Monday, February 1st – Last week I talked about the new “best” deck in Extended, but time has consistently taught us that something is only the “best” until people want to beat it badly enough. Dredge used to be the big man on campus, back in the day where Breakthrough and Ichorid were legal, but Wizards decided to print plenty of cards that gave the deck hell, and most of which are still around today.

The Long & Winding Road – Fishing in NY

Grand Prix: Oakland!

Monday, February 1st -Thada Adel, Acquisitor is interesting because of its versatility. If you connect early against Workshops, you could steal a Crucible of Worlds to combat Smokestack. Against Oath of Druids and Tezzeret, you can attack Time Vault / Voltaic Key (and even assemble it on your side with just two hits); against The Deck and Tezzeret, you can also remove Tinker targets from the game to cut off that avenue of attack.
