Wednesday, August 4th – Hello folks, and welcome to my latest article. Today I want to talk about a theory of mine I’ve discussed from time to time in my articles, but usually for never more than a paragraph or so. It seemed like a good time to expand on that theory, and dedicate a whole article to it. This theory looks at game-changing cards, when and why they work, and how to best utilize them.

Tuesday, August 3rd – Kyle Boggemes rocked up to Grand Prix: Columbus with a spicy Legacy list, but committed one of the cardinal sins of tournament play: he audibled into a different deck at the last minute. Today, he licks his wounds and counts his losses, sharing a few match stories and some takeaways he picked up from the tournament floor.
Tuesday, August 3rd – Let’s start with a little history of GenCon: GenCon began in 1968 as a wargames convention, and was co-founded by Gary Gygax, who would later go on to co-create Dungeons and Dragons with Dave Arneson. Surprisingly, every year I hear someone get shocked by the fact that GenCon is older than Magic. It’s even older than D&D!

Monday, August 2nd – A fair amount of controversy has appeared over the past few weeks, over the subject of “how to fish.” AJ Sacher wrote in this article that ‘there is too much deck copying, and not enough deck design’, to summarize in very brief. The parable goes that if you give a man a fish, he will eat for a day, but if instead you teach a man to fish, he will eat for the rest of his life.

Friday, July 30th – When deckbuilding, I’m a firm believer in the philosophy that there are no “good†cards or “bad†cards, but merely cards that do what you need them to do. What you need a card to do is shaped by the environment in which you are playing. This is why I hate set reviews; it’s difficult to look at a new set and know precisely how the environment will shift to incorporate it.
