The Weekly Shift Sift: Exiting The Spiral

Read The Ferrett... every Monday at
StarCityGames.com!Well, we have just a handful of weeks to go before Planar Chaos wipes the field as we know it, changing Sealed Deck builds everywhere. It’s hard to get people to read about Sealed Decks when there’s that much change in the air, but I know I could get you in here early. How? Well, it might cost me a good gig, but I could do it.

SCG Daily – Starting Out on Magic Online, Part 4

Thanks for reading this week … and a special thank-you to those readers who already have been on MTGO awhile. A lot of this week’s material may have seemed way too simplistic to you, but if you kept reading, I appreciate it.

Now, to questions…

The Magic Show #25 — Thanks for the Metagame 2006, Part 3 of 3

Hello everybody and welcome to the Magic Show. Today we’re going over my Top Ten Articles of 2006. We’ve seen a lot of good reads go by this year, and this is my list for the best of the best…

Warning! Contains spoilers!

Magical Hack: Playing With Myself

Read Sean McKeown... every Friday at
StarCityGames.com!

If your local testing group isn’t around, and you have a reasonable collection on Magic Online, you can always just build the deck you fancy and get your game on in the Tournament Practice Room. But if you’re by yourself and the Internet isn’t a realistic option, you can always just play with yourself…

SCG Daily: Starting Out on Magic Online, Part 3

I decided one day out of my Daily series should be dedicated to the “Trading Post” icon on your MTGO homepage. Trading has not been a big part of my MTGO experience so far, but at some point it probably will have to be, if I ever want to play Constructed. Plus, it’s probably a big part of your experience, since I’m pretty lucky to have the job that I do.

The Kitchen Table #162: The Standstill Dilemma

Read Abe Sargent... every Thursday at
StarCityGames.com!
Last Friday we had eleven people at my place for Magic night. During the night there came a point in time when seven people were playing a large multiplayer game, and someone cast Standstill.

In multiplayer games, how many cards are as complex to deal with as Standstill?

The 2006 StarCityGames.com Awards

It’s that magical, Magical time of year. A time for reflection, for introspection, for looking back at the passing year with a carafe of mulled wine and a whimsical eye. The gold envelopes are ready, and the nominations are in. The mics have been tested, and the entrees have been served.

Pray silence please… for the 2006 StarCityGames.com Awards.

SCG Daily – Starting Out on Magic Online, Part 2

Yesterday’s pace of five drafts in one day, with only two prize packs to show for it, suggested that I would go bankrupt long before I would go infinite. So I decided to purchase twelve packs each of Time Spiral and Ninth Edition (the two draft formats whose queues I saw fill up most often) and make them last as long as I could…

Magic Online Musings: This Week on MTGO #42

Read The Blisterguy... every Wednesday at
StarCityGames.com!

Blisterguy brings us a breakdown of the recent Standard and Extended Premier Events from Magic Online, and takes a wistful stroll down the Metagame Memory Lane… how do the results of six months ago compare with those of today?

SCG Daily – Starting Out on Magic Online, Part 1

This week’s series is pretty much explained by the title: I recently gained access to Magic Online for the first time, and I kept track of what I did while I was just getting started, with the hope that it might be of some use to the folks out there…

From Right Field: One Fish, Two Fish, Dead Fish, Blue Fish

Read Chris Romeo... every Tuesday at
StarCityGames.com!
A few months ago, I opined that Lord of Atlantis should have been re-Oracled the same way that Elvish Champion, Goblin King, and Lord of the Undead had been. In other words, they gained the creature type of the creatures over whom they ruled. Lord of Atlantis was reprinted in Time Spiral’s Timeshifted subset and got all of the trapping of being a true Lord. Yeah! That was the good news. The bad news is that he gets a whopping three other Merfolk to play with in Standard…

Fading Into Standard

The winner of the StarCityGames.com 1K Open tournament is one that I did not expect… and to be honest, I’d dismissed it. Fader seemed to me like it was a one-hit wonder (much like Solar Pox was, in my mind at least), winning a few State championships and falling off the face of Standard.

I was wrong.

The Magic Show #24 — Thanks for the Metagame 2006, Part 2 of 3

Hello everybody and welcome to The Magic Show. I’m your host, Evan Erwin.

Today we’re going to cover the latter half of 2006, along with the first wave of “The Magic Show Best of StarCityGames.com 2006 Awards.” And I promise none of my silly articles will be involved.

Magical Hack: Snakes on a Desert In… “Trial By Fire”

Read Sean McKeown... every Friday at
StarCityGames.com!

Last week, I had said my goal for this week was to get into a Premier Event, and try my hand at playing my theorized City Championships season deck “Snakes on a Desert” in a Standard tournament of at least some worth or impact. Lacking in other recourses during the holiday season, it seemed that Magic Online with its ever-in-motion Standard tournament cycle was to be the plan…

Yawgmoth’s Whimsy #159: Ramping up for Extended

The Extended PTQs are fast approaching. Extended has always been a favorite format of mine. I have written a lot (extensively?) about Extended, more than anything else, and enjoyed Extended events more than practically any other format. Extended season has a certain history and rhythm — and that rhythm will remain, despite the impact of the card pool, the combo decks and Magic Online.
