The Long & Winding Road – Tournament Checklist

Read Matt Elias every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Monday, July 6th – Olivier Ruel recently provided some good advice for self-improvement – ways to make you a better and more successful, Magic player. I thought it might be useful to focus and expand on this idea by looking at what actions you can take before, during, and after a tournament with the specific goal of realizing self-improvement.

Constructed Criticism – A Look at Standard for Nationals

Read Todd Anderson every week... at StarCityGames.com
Monday, July 6th – I was planning on writing an article about Limited today, but I feel as if Standard post-M10 needs a little bit more attention. It is the Constructed format for Nationals, and thus the most important to me. There are so many cards are leaving the format, destroying “established” decks but spawning very few new ideas.

At the Gathering – Magic M10 Semi-Exclusive Preview Card Time!

Read Jeff Phillips every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Friday, July 3rd – This week was supposed to be a preview card for you fine readers, but it appears as if our friends over at MTGSalvation.com have managed to spoil the party (pun intended). But, since the card image itself hasn’t been leaked, let me at least give you a card image…

You Lika The Juice? – M10 at 5000 Feet

Read Bennie Smith every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Friday, July 3rd – Given that there are always a few hiccups in the spoilers leading up to the prerelease, I thought it might be handy to look at M10 broadly – from a 5000-foot level, as it were – and read what the tea leaves tell us regarding what the good folk at Wizards have in mind for the game as they reboot the Core set.

Magical Hack – One Last Stab at Shards Limited

Read Sean McKeown every Friday... at StarCityGames.com!
Friday, July 3rd – With the release of Magic 2010 right around the corner, we will soon be leaving behind Shards of Alara / Conflux / Alara Reborn Limited for the unknown shores of what is shaping up to be the most interesting Core Sets in recent memory.

The Magic Show #148 – Magic 2010 Incoming! (Part 1)

Watch Evan Erwin every week... on StarCityGames.com!
Friday, July 3rd – Hello everybody, and welcome to another edition of the Magic Show. In the first of a two-part episode, this week we’re going to be diving headfirst into Magic 2010: The set’s fully spoiled, some huge revelations have arrived, and our power curve has jumped significantly. Are you ready to see how Magic is going to change forever? Let’s go!

Insert Column Name Here – Duels of the Planeswalkers Review

Read The Ferrett every Monday... at StarCityGames.com!
Friday, July 3rd – I missed my article last Monday. But that article was almost ghost-written by my boss, Pete – and it would have read like this:

The Ferrett, webmaster and long-time writer for this site, died on Tuesday evening due to complications arising from a burst appendix…

Yawgmoth’s Whimsy #282 – Expected Value of Draft Queues

Read Peter Jahn... at StarCityGames.com!
Thursday, July 2nd – Years ago, Wizards changed the prize payout for drafts. At one time, the drafts paid 5-3-2-2 packs. Later, that was cut to 4-3-2-2, and the 8-4 queues introduced. Some Magic players have never forgiven Wizards for this change, and continue to attack Wizards, and the payout, in the forums and elsewhere whenever possible.

The Justice League – Fun Times in Minneapolis

Read The Justice League every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Thursday, July 2nd – My official job title at Star City Games is Events Coordinator. This typically involves promoting our events, staffing them, and then traveling throughout the Southeast to run them. Although I’ve never actually counted, it’s a safe bet that I run some thirty to forty events every year, everything from Prereleases to PTQs.

Flow of Ideas – Reveillark: Now and in the Future

Read Gavin Verhey every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Thursday, July 2nd – Everyone seems to know me as the Faeries guy, and, in all fairness, for good reason. Spellstutter Sprite has carried me to two Pro Tours and won me countless matches online. However, what’s far lesser known than my alignment with the winged menace is my affiliation with the Reveillark collective.

MTGCast #161 – M10 Mopery

Listen to MTGCast every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Wednesday, July 1st – Tom, Conley and Jack go through the slew of new cards on the M10 unofficial spoiler, and Conley gives a great breakdown on the new card ratio being potentially misleading and some missed design facets.

The Kitchen Table #292 – Silly Card Tricks II

Read Abe Sargent every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Wednesday, July 1st – A few times in the past, I’ve highlighted various cards with a detailed look at each. I have spent articles on cards like Portcullis, Cloudstone Curio and Mages’ Contest. Today I want to spend some time investigating just a small number of cards, and then discussing deck building strategies for my choices.

Tribal Thriftiness #73 – Magic 2010 Reprints

Read Dave Meeson every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Wednesday, July 1st – Dave knows we’re all looking forward to the first base set with new cards, but Magic 2010 is reprinting a lot of great commons and uncommons that you need to dig out of the depths of your collection.

Chatter of the Squirrel – What Matters

Read Zac Hill every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Wednesday, July 1st – The best advice ever given to anyone about Magic is the statement, “Focus on what matters.” Of course, that’s cheating, though, because clearly if you know what matters already then you don’t really need to worry about figuring out what to focus on.

Next Level Magic eBook by Patrick ‘The Innovator’ Chapin – On Sale Now!

Next Level Magic eBook by Patrick 'The Innovator' Chapin - Now Available!

The “Next Level Magic” eBook is now available, and check out what some have had to say so far!

“I bought it right when I got home from work and when it arrived I read the entire thing from cover to cover. My bottom line review: it is definitely worth it. It is really well organized and really inspirational. It made me want to be a better player and showed me dozens of different ways to improve as well. The book is hard to explain because in some ways it lays the foundation and fills in holes I had in my understanding of the game and Chapin’s perspective, but it’s also like a Master’s course and goes into advanced topics that he hasn’t written about online.Zen Viking, on MTGSalvation

“I am very impressed with this book. A thumping good read and very informative, recommending it to every Magic player, competitive or not, that I know. Well done!”Elliot Raff, via Facebook
