Tuesday, February 9th – Limited formats are much harder to mine data from because the decklists at top events are so seemingly random. Each Top 8 booster draft will obviously contain different cards, such is the appeal of Limited. We can’t make results-based generalities like “in M10 Limited Blue/White is better than Mono Black†from a single event because in each draft the archetypes will have different cards making them up.

Tuesday, February 9th – Week 3 of the Armada Games EDH League demonstrated just how out of hand the format can get in the wacky and wild. It got so wacky and wild that I actually couldn’t keep up writing fast enough to record everything that went on – and you’ll see why.
Monday, February 8th – The best opening I got for this article is to start singing “A Whole New Worldwake” like I’m Aladdin, since Rosewater stole the Wham! reference I was planning on making. I guess there’s some relevance to “We Are The Worldwake;” did Rosewater use that when he introduced the design team? No? I guess I should be happy that all the good puns aren’t gone by now.
Monday, February 8th – There are essentially three phases to decks in Extended. They move to the point where they’re unknown and good, to where they’re on the uprise and still good because people aren’t prepared for them yet, and when they’ve hit their peak and bad to play because people are now overly prepared for them.
Monday, February 8th – With tournament results flowing in unlike any other time in Magic history (due to Magic Online results), we are given constant updates on archetypes, card changes, and trends on what particular decks are popular or dying in popularity. As of right now, there are plenty of viable archetypes, so finding the right one for you is the real problem.

Friday, February 5th – While I think that Worldwake has brought a scrumptious plateful of treats to appease our appetite for Standard change, I don’t believe it will have nearly as big an impact on Extended. That’s not too surprising, as any new set has to contend with about triple the number of cards in Extended as compared to Standard.

Wednesday, February 3rd – It never ceases to amaze me just how many people spend the weeks leading up to the release of a new set complaining about how bad it is, especially with small sets. I mean, what is it about small sets that makes Magic players so narrow-minded? After this weekend’s prerelease, I’m quite convinced that the set is far from underdeveloped, and a long way from being bad in Constructed.
