The Riki Rules – Legal Eagle

Read Riki Hayashi every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Tuesday, July 22nd – Two weeks ago, several articles caused a fair amount of forum chatter with their accounts of rules lawyering. Unfortunately, due to the two-day Prerelease, I had most of my article for last week prepped when these articles came out, and I didn’t have time to whip out this response. Hopefully you all remember these cases…

Unlocking Legacy – The Absolute Newest

Monday, July 21st – Doug gives us a short and sweet Eventide evaluation, considering some new building-block cards that will have a strong impact on the Legacy format. Will the enemy-colored Cairn cycle fill in for our missing enemy-color fetchlands, bringing Rock decks to the forefront? Will Wake Thrasher make those mighty Merfolk playable? All this, plus a breakdown of last month’s major Legacy events serve to prepare you for the country’s biggest Legacy events in August.

The Main Phase – Declaring Block, Part III: Brace for Impact

Read Reuben Bresler every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Monday, July 21st – Usually when an author does a set review or two they go card by card through an entire color, or maybe through the whole set, but I wanted to take a different approach. Rather than try and evaluate cards in the abstract I wanted to separate some of the wheat from the chaff evaluate in context and see what cards have value to current existing archetypes…

The Magic Show #105 – Eventide Prerelease

Watch Evan Erwin every Friday... on StarCityGames.com!
Friday, July 18th – Hello everybody, and welcome to another edition of the Magic Show. This week we’re talking to prerelease players in Nashville, Tennessee on what they think about Eventide, the upcoming prerelease changes, Mythic rares, new favorites and more. Let’s go!

Magical Hack – Eventide in Block Constructed

Read Sean McKeown every Friday... at StarCityGames.com!
Friday, July 18th – We have been toiling in what seems to be a degenerate Block Constructed format, living in a world where Faeries wins more than half the PTQs, and attendance is beginning to dip as we grow bored of trying to combat The Faerie Menace. Eventide’s impending release fleshes out the world of Block Constructed, completing the card-pool and either giving the hope of unhorsing the big bully of the format once and for all… or killing it.

Tribal Thriftiness #32 – Adventures in Eventiding

Read Dave Meeson every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Thursday, July 17th – What do a stairway taller than the Empire State Building, a too-long lunch at Long John Silver’s, and a fourth Tarmogoyf have in common? If you, somehow, guessed “Eventide Prerelease,” you’re right!

The Kitchen Table #242 – Unearthed Arcana II

Read Abe Sargent every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Thursday, July 17th – Today’s article is the third installment of The Magic Role-Playing Game. The last article was published back in January, so I felt it was time for another supplement. The Magic RPG is my most popular work. I suspect that it will endure for a long time, and it’s my favorite contribution to the game. I have had people tell me that playing The Magic RPG has changed their Magic gaming experience forever, and I am humbled by this.

Yawgmoth’s Whimsy #235 – Fearmongering

Thursday, July 17th – Life’s been a little busy lately, and I was not going to write an article this week. The prerelease was – from my perspective – sort of blah. Then I read both Chatter’s article this week, and the responses. Some people are blathering, and I need to comment. I’ll also sprinkle in a few of the dumb plays I saw last weekend.

Chatter of the Squirrel – Organizing Prereleases

Read Zac Hill every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Wednesday, July 16th – A key element of the “acquisition process” that, it appears, has been one of WoTC’s many buzzwords for 2008, is making the process of playing in a tournament as fun as possible for the people that choose to do so. A well-run event provides an air of professionalism to Magic that suggests the people behind the game really do know what they are doing.

You Lika The Juice? – The Casually Competitive Sides of Eventide

Read Bennie Smith every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Wednesday, July 16th – The Eventide spoiler is out, and ‘tis the season for set reviews. While you’ll be getting the Spike-side view from the Premium gang, and the casual review from some of the free side regulars, I figure I’d go ahead and give my takes on it too.

Removed from Game – The Rules of Miserable, Part 1

Read Rich Hagon every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Tuesday, July 15th – Many believe that everyone has a Purpose in life, a true Reason they are called upon to walk the Earth. Many of us have pondered what possible Purpose Rich Hagon has, and what degenerative logic could have led to his existence. Now, at last, he believes he knows, for he is a man on a mission, a man in search… of Miserable.

The Main Phase, Episode 10 – (Insert Eventide Pun Here)

Read Reuben Bresler every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Tuesday, July 15th – This past weekend, in my continuing effort to qualify for Pro Tour: Berlin, I traveled to Detroit for a PTQ. I decided that for the rest of the season, as I said a few weeks ago, I would be battling with Kithkin.

Deconstructing Constructed – Thoughts on Eventide

Read Josh Silvestri every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Tuesday, July 15th – Today I’ll be going over some thoughts on Eventide, and its impact on Block and possibly Standard. I’ll also recap some of my thoughts on the impact of cards I saw in Limited play at the prerelease this past weekend.

Unlocking Legacy – From Here to Eternity

Monday, July 14th – This story begins with an announcement that was posted on The Source by Chris Lennon (Volt) advertising a Legacy tournament in Vancouver, WA. People start discussing the possibility about driving out to the tournament. This suggestion seemed to be joke at first. Driving across the country to play in Magic tournament where even if you win you can’t make more than equivalent of 200 dollars is pure madness. Or is it?

The Riki Rules – Mirror, Mirror… Who’s The Most Confusing Card Of Them All?

Read Riki Hayashi every week... at StarCityGames.com!
Monday, July 14th – A full 189 players showed up to do battle for a slot to Berlin on the Fifth of July. After just a few rounds we discovered that Mirrorweave is hands down the most rules intensive card in this Block format. Let’s just hand it the Humility Award now.
