Friday, April 2nd – Judges watch a lot of Magic. That’s one of the main things we do at tournaments. At my last PTQ, there were 119 players playing 341 matches of Magic. So we also see a lot of mistakes. While you can make a misplay within a tournament and lose for it, you can also fall behind for mistakes made outside of a game of Magic. My goal here is to present the most obvious of these mistakes, so you can avoid ever making them again.

Thursday, April 1st – Welcome to the Bazaar. Step right up, make your payments, and proceed to build the deck of your choice. It’s very simple. You just arrived at this unnamed Plane and you intend to use it as a battlefield. However, you realize that you are bound by a few different rules than normal, as this world infringes on your previous freedoms. You are in the Merchant Square of a large city, and intend to find the items you will need to fight your foe.

Thursday, April 1st – Recently, I played in the PTQ for San Juan in Boise. I played decently, but not well enough, obviously. I had high hopes for DDT, but I made a number of bad plays that inevitably led me to a mediocre day. Most importantly, though, I let my own tilt ruin the day for me.

Thursday, April 1st – At Pro Tour: Austin, I had some time to talk with Lee Sharpe of WotC about WotC’s “Merging Tournaments” program, and got further details at the Magic Online Community Cup Challenge at Renton. The broad goal of the MT program is to unify the online and paper tournament experience, in the hope of cross-pollinating both. I got this information on the condition that I keep silent until second quarter, 2010, to allow them to complete their installation. It’s now the second quarter of 2010, so here’s what I know…

Wednesday, March 31st – I am positive that everyone who owns a Cube will want to run an eight-man Draft at some point, so 360 cards is the minimum. However, part of the fun of any Draft format is wondering which cards will get opened; if you draft multiple times with the entire Cube, you lose that mystery.
