Wednesday, July 7th – As of last week, I had the notion that M11 was shaping up to be a fine Core Set. A week later, I feel as it has surpassed M10 not only in power level but also in flavor and overall design. I don’t have a lot to say about some of those particular cards (Phylactery Lich, for example, is among the best designs I’ve seen from Wizards in years), but they should certainly not be ignored when evaluating the worth of the set. M11 is looking pretty incredible right now.
Wednesday, July 7th – I wanted to write about the interesting intersections between several different cards and strategies that revolve around Nether Shadow and its fellow creatures. We don’t really have a name in Magic for the strategy of cards like Nether Shadow and Ashen Ghoul. Self recursion? Self reanimation? I call it Andre Rison.

Tuesday, July 6th – I watched Italy play terribly on the morning of EDH League, so I was angry. It was really a letdown to see gli azzurri so dominated by such a lesser squad. The only deck to play angry is Kresh (okay, maybe Karrthus, but still, Kresh is much angrier). After playing a few casual games, I popped Altar of Dementia out of Karrthus and into Kresh for some serious shenanigan value…

Monday, July 5th – My last PTQ was March 14, 2009, and was an Extended PTQ in Philadelphia. Last Saturday, I went to Philly to play in the PTQ. Actually, I more or less went to hang out, grab lunch at the Reading Terminal Market, and test Legacy; the playing of the PTQ part was kind of an afterthought.
Monday, July 5th – For Ad Nauseam and Reanimator€™s last hurrah, the St. Louis StarCityGames.com Legacy Open wasn€™t much of a showcase of power. Even though Reanimator was the most popular deck in the field, neither archetype managed a Top 16 showing. What decks dominated the event and, with Thopters taking the trophy, has Extended€™s most hated combo become a Legacy powerhouse as well?
