Tuesday, November 10th – Have you heard the news? “Legacy defeats Counterbalance!†is the headline of the day. After winning Grand Prix: Chicago and the Boston $5K, Counterbalance seemed poised to dominate the Legacy metagame… until, suddenly, it didn’t.
Monday, November 9th – I’m still in my new set card accumulation phase, so I thought I’d indulge my spikier (okay, semi-spikier) side and go through a couple of draft games that threw up some interesting choices. It’s a slight gear change from the usual goofy decks side of things, so bear with me.
Monday, November 9th – For weeks, there has been one deck stuck in my head. At every turn, I try to beat it, but fall just short of my goal. Wall of Denial and Sphinx of Jwar Isle combined with the power of Baneslayer Angel and Ajani Vengeant aren’t enough to combat the powerful combinations that Jund brings to the table. Even with maindeck Celestial Purge, I find myself losing about 50% of the time to my own worst enemy. What can I do?
Friday, November 6th – After Ascending Pyromaniacally for several weeks, our hero (me) finally felt like it might be time to put the deck that I talked about the other week on the shelf. While certainly powerful and capable of completely degenerate draws – triple Ponder, Pyromancer’s Ascension comes to mind – the long and short of the matter is that the deck is just a little bit of a dog to Jund.
Friday, November 6th – Today I thought I’d shake things up a bit. While I do have a recounting of my EDH game with a Halloween themed Baron Sengir deck at the end of the column, I wanted to start things off by examining two Zendikar sealed deck pools. We’ve got a double PTQ weekend in Richmond in a week, and while I’m not a big fan of Sealed, I’ve got to at least try. Help?
Friday, November 6th – The rotation of decks continued through the Armada Games EDH League, this time with the original, Phelddagrif. The purple hippo deck originally started because of how bad the card is. It was a concession to the fact that I had a giant collection and my group consisted of casual players who didn’t have four copies of everything cool.
Friday, November 6th – Hello everybody, and welcome to another edition of the Magic Show. This week we’re going to bring you some of the most exciting footage from Austin you’ve yet to see, which is that of the new Magic Online UI redesign. There was many a mention from the Magic Online developers on how they were getting a “UI Expert” from Nokia and Microsoft to come help fix the ugly Magic Online interface, and it shows. And we’ll also feature a few video extras from PT: Austin. Let’s go!
Thursday, November 5th – Now that we’re immersed in Zendikar, I really like this set. It’s a lot of fun, without having to be the most technically minded player at times. Fun sets like this usually have me thinking about building new decks, and that’s something that I haven’t done in over a year. However, when I think of construction I tend to be looking for cards that will fit into a Two-Headed Giant deck first and foremost.
Thursday, November 5th – By the time you read this, I should be in Renton for the Magic Online Community Challenge Cup Tournament. Eight writers / community leaders going up against over a dozen WotC staff, lead by Hall of Famer Mike Turian. We will be playing some Constructed formats that may never be seen again, and I didn’t want to write about those too much. However, our thoughts on building sideboards are generally relevant, so I’ll talk about that.
Thursday, November 5th – The next leg of my journey to qualify for Pro Tour San Diego took me to Tampa. Or not. As I’m sure you’ve read in other reports by now, the GP actually occurred in a town called Palmetto, located a good 50 minutes from the Tampa airport, where the only options were take a 100+ dollar cab ride or a 40 dollar per person shuttle.

Wednesday, November 4th – One of the best things about casual Magic are alternate formats to play. Although there are a lot of casual players out there who play official WoTC formats, there are also a large contingent of players who enjoy casual-only formats like Peasant, EDH, 5 Color, and more. Today I want to give you the next entry in my Compendium, with a casual format aimed to give you a new format to play. I love trying out new formats, and I know some of you do too.
Wednesday, November 4th – Communication is a funny thing. We can say something exactly the same to two different people, and get two different responses. Both inside and outside of Magic, we get mixed message, strange reads, completely baffling personality traits, and so much internal, inbred catchphrases that it’s sometimes hard to get a clear point across.
