Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has announced that two new expansions for the Historic and Explorer formats are coming to MTG Arena on July 18.

For those unfamiliar with MTG Arena-exclusive formats, Historic is a non-rotating, digital-only format that features cards from across Magic’s history. It also includes digital-only Alchemy cards and as such, is subject to rebalancing rather than traditional bans and restrictions. Explorer is another non-rotating format, and is MTG Arena’s version of Pioneer, following the same Banned and Restricted list. The goal of Explorer is to eventually become a functioning clone of Pioneer.

Between the two anthologies, a total of 50 new cards will be added – 25 for each format, however the cards being injected into Explorer will also be Historic-legal. Currently, only three cards from each Anthology have been revealed – Tooth and Nail, Worn Powerstone, and Acidic Slime for Historic, and Cyclonic Rift, Deathrite Shaman, and Eidolon of Blossoms for Explorer.

Like previous Anthologies, players will be able to either craft the cards they desire using wild cards, or purchase bundles, containing four of each card. You can view the bundle pricing and availability below.

  • Bundle cost: 4,000 gems or 25,000 gold
  • Bundle availability: July 18, 2023 – October 10, 2023
