Monday, October 26th – The StarCityGames.com $5000 Standard Open in Nashville is a little under two weeks away, and should provide a great testing opportunity for Worlds, not to mention a way to make some dough. After blowing through about $400 on my trip to Austin, I figured this could be a good way to recoup my losses.
Friday, October 23rd – MTGO is currently reading (for me) “downloading 1 of 574 files,†so I guess that means Zendikar has arrived. Before I get a chance to draft the new cards with a fervor (okay, slight interest), I thought I’d look back over the departing block…
Wednesday, October 21st – I had an opportunity to play at a PTQ this last weekend. Of course, by opportunity, I mean I switched work schedules, picked up an extra shift, and made an iron man 18 hour day in order to play in a Zendikar sealed PTQ.
Wednesday, October 21st – Kyle rocked up to his home territory Pro Tour with a hot Standard deck and a pocketful of passion. Sadly, the desire didn’t translate into the invite. Today, he shares his time at the LCQ, and lists his weapon of choice both pre- and post-tournament.
Tuesday, October 20th – The new Ally mechanic from Zendikar offers a number of possibilities to deckbuilders willing to put the effort in – and since they are mostly common and uncommon, they make a great place to start for cost-conscious players.

Monday, October 19th – One of the cards that jumped out at me in the Zendikar spoiler, along with everyone else, was Bloodchief Ascension; however, unlike everyone else, I felt like Pyromancer Ascension was a perhaps even more powerful enchantment. Just like at a sandwich shop, two-for-one deals make anyone stop and take notice.
Friday, October 16th – October has been an exciting time. We’ve finally shrugged off the oppressively powerful cards from Lorwyn/Shadowmoor that have been dominating Standard for so long. Add to that the rush of an exciting new set chock full of enticing new cards, and it all makes for a wild ride for Magic players as we try to figure out what to play now.
