Wednesday, February 13th – When Wizards made adjustments to the Pro Tour, they made sure to provide plenty of explanation for those who were impacted. There’s exponentially more people impacted by the decision to abandon States! States is wildly popular, and poof! It’s gone. They’re nuking the program from orbit without a word to the very large number of players down here on the ground that are impacted by the decision.
Wednesday, February 13th – Last week I took a look at the loss of a Pro Tour. As most of you figured out, I was not ranting, not saying “Magic is dying†or anything like that. I was simply trying to lay out the facts and numbers. I think Wizards is redirecting their money towards supporting the customer base. That’s probably wise. This week, however, I want to rant a bit. I haven’t done that for a long while. It’s time.
Wednesday, February 13th – I’m sure everybody’s heard by now about the Magic Players’ Union, what they plan to bring to the table at the meeting in Kuala Lumpur, some of the concerns, questions, and curiosities that have arisen as to how to proceed from here. There’s been some characteristically meticulous number-crunching on Frank Karsten’s part, some vigorous community organizing by Raphael Levy, and I’m eager to see how that affects (if at all) the direction of the meeting.

Monday, February 11th – My favorite card type in Magic is land. Lands make mana, which allow me to cast spells and therefore interact with my opponents. Some of them even stand in fairly well for spells a decent amount of the time. However, this extended season I have learned from working with fellow players and looking at winning decklists that not everyone shares my love of land. In fact, many people appear to have a strong distaste for playing more lands than they absolutely have to.
