Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and Torche, take a look at the latest Birthing Pod variant from Kaldheim — Pyre of Heroes!
The Miami-based metal band Torche showed off the new card in a video on their Facebook page while also hinting at new music from them coming soon.
2, T: Sacrifice a creature: Search your library for a creature card that shares a creature type with the sacrificed creature and has converted mana cost equal to 1 plus that creature’s converted mana cost. Put that card onto the battlefield, then shuffle your library. Activate this ability only any time you could cast a sorcery.
At two mana, Pyre of Heroes can hit the battlefield early to get under counter magic and allow you to generate plenty of value. While it can only be activated as a sorcery, it only takes two mana which can easily be paid for while adding other permanents to the battlefield. The tribal details sets Pyre of Heroes apart from other versions of cards like Birthing Pod and Prime Speaker Vannifar.
Where do you see Pyre of Heroes fitting? Goblins, Knights, Humans, Vampires, Spirits, and Merfolk all have strong support in Historic, though we have to wait and see what creature types come in Kaldheim.
