The Brazilian metal band introduced themselves, talked about how metal and Magic go well together, and previewed the rare sage in an Instagram video on their official page.
Many predicted sagas as a great mechanic to return in Kaldheim and it didn’t take long in preview season to confirm their arrival. Showdown of the Skalds follows the less common theme of having two chapters do the same thing.
Exile the top four cards of your library. Until the end of your next turn, you may play those cards.
Similar to Escape to the Wilds, Showdown of the Skalds exiles a number of cards and allows you to play them until your next turn. The first chapter of this saga gives you four options for four mana instead of five for five.
Whenever you cast a spell this turn, put a +1+1 counter on target creature you control.
The second and third chapter rewards you for playing the extra spells by pumping up creatures. The enchantment gives you plenty of fodder, but it doesn’t constrict you to only benefitting from spells exiled by Showdown of the Skalds.
