A 2024 Scarlet & Violet Paldean Fates SIR #232 Mew Ex from the Pokémon Trading Card Game has sold at auction for a staggering $236,543.
Hosted by Goldin, the auction featured a 2024 Scarlet & Violet Paldean Fates SIR #232 Mew Ex, affectionately known by the fan-base as “Bubble Mew”, in BGS Pristine, Black Label 10. According to Goldin, this card is one of just two copies in existence at that grade.

Historically, factors such as vintage appeal, scarcity, artwork, and grade (condition), have been the driving forces behind the hobby’s most expensive chase cards, and the previous record holder for most expensive Mew card, an error’d 2001 Japanese Promo CoroCoro Comics Holo Shining Mew, upholds that formula, having sold for approximately $156,000 just last month.
While historical trends are a crucial part of the collectibles market, they do change over time, but the sale of this Bubble Mew has sparked debate among many collectors in the Pokémon TCG community, questioning whether this could be a case of deliberate inflation or a legitimate shift in the market to favor highly-coveted, albeit newer cards.
