Nate Green won the Regional Championship at SCG CON Los Angeles with Azorius Control (Kaheera) on Sunday.

Azorius Control (Kaheera) Nate Green
Green rattled off a 12-1-2 record in the Swiss to make the Top 8 as the No. 2 seed, joining two other players on Azorius Control in the elimination rounds. After the success of Azorius Control in last week’s Canadian RC, the prison-style deck surged in popularity due to its strength against Mono-Green Broodscale, ending in a second RC victory in as many weeks.
Green faced a Top 8 with rough matchups, but the combination of efficient removal and the lockout combo of Narset, Parter of Veils and Day’s Undoing can turn even the toughest matchups. When backed up by Teferi, Time Raveler and seven Silence effects, opponents quickly find themselves without any recourse.

In the quarterfinals, Green took down Gabriel Nicholas, in his third RC Top 8, on Izzet Prowess in a tight three-game set. From there, Green defeated Chris Wamsley on Domain Zoo to advance to the finals and face the mirror in the hands of Henry Romero.
The finalists traded the first two games, which were longer affairs with plenty of jockeying for the upper hand. But in Game 3, Green slammed the door about as fast as possible with a Turn-3 Narset, a Force of Negation for Romero’s planeswalker, and a Day’s Undoing to leave Romero close to resourceless and Green with a full grip. With no way to claw back, Romero extended the hand.
Azorius Control (Kaheera) Henry Romero
Green took home $20,000 and the title of champion, while Romero earned $10,000. The Top 32 finishers earned invites to the upcoming Pro Tour in Detroit, though Green and Romero also punched their tickets to the World Championship in 2027.
While Mono-Green Broodscale and Izzet Prowess still paced the field in the top two slots on Day 1, Azorius Control made its presence known by taking the No. 3 spot. Boros Energy and Domain Zoo rounded out the Top 5 archetypes of the 1,228 players. Azorius Control would improve on its position in Day 2 by a significant amount.

Day 2 consisted of 277 players that reached 18 match points on Day 1. See how the archetypes converted below.
