The SCG Tour (Tabletop) Goes On Indefinite Hiatus

Important information concerning the future of the SCG Tour from President Pete Hoefling.

Since COVID-19 forced the tabletop SCG Tour to be placed on a temporary hiatus back in March, we have continued to operate with the expectation that things would soon return to “normal”. Unfortunately, seven months have now passed and we still have no idea when large Magic: The Gathering events such as those comprising the tabletop SCG Tour will again be possible.

Until that time comes, we’ve officially changed the SCG Tour’s hiatus from temporary to indefinite due to the ongoing uncertainty.

When it came to the issue of outstanding Championship event qualifications, we considered transferring those invites to events offered on the MTG Arena platform (as Wizards of the Coast opted to do back in May). After evaluating our options, we decided to continue waiting until in-person large-scale Magic: The Gathering events are again possible and determine how to honor outstanding event qualifications at that time. Regardless of how we ultimately end up doing so, the total amount of prizes awarded will remain the same.

Any outstanding purchased Star City Games Open free entry vouchers will either be honored once such events are again possible, or fully refunded. To request a refund for any purchased Star City Games Open free entry vouchers now, please email [email protected] and they’ll be happy to take care of that for you.

We look forward to when we can all safely gather in person, and shuffle up across from one another, again. In the meantime, we’re working on the next iteration of the SCG Tour Online and should have some exciting announcements soon!

Thank you for all of your patience, support, and understanding during these unprecedented times. If you have any tabletop SCG Tour-related questions, please email [email protected] and they’ll be happy to help.
