On today’s Good Morning Magic, Gavin Verhey addressed questions about foil cards, including why some cards haven’t been printed in foil and why Wizards of the Coast (WotC) won’t be printing foil-only promotional cards in the future.
According to Verhey, the printing of Nexus of Fate as a Buy-A-Box promotional card was the turning point for printing some cards in only foil, as the availability of Nexus of Fate became a huge problem during its time in Standard. Moving forward, Verhey has confirmed that “some promotional cards will not appear in foil” in the future.
We decided if a card was going to show up in Standard, there needed to be a non-foil version available of it somewhere.
For cards that have not appeared in foil before, Verhey also states that some of these cards will be included in products such as Commander Legends or the upcoming Double Masters.
