Gavin Verhey used today’s episode of Good Morning Magic to have highly ranked Magic Arena player John Roberts break down his current Core Set 2021 Standard ladder deck, Jund Midrange.

Roberts, who goes by JdoubleR2 on Arena, has been a longtime top Mythic player and is back in the Top 100 this season. He showed off his current build of Jund Midrange, fielding question from Verhey along the way.

The deck plays a lot like a traditional Jund deck, packed with removal, discard, creatures, and planeswalkers that provide plenty of value. On top of efficient removal, the deck also has versatile options like Casualties of War, Eat to Extinction, and Ugin, the Ineffable.

Roberts said the deck is well-positioned at the moment with good matchups against the ramp decks and linear aggro decks. While it struggles a bit against Temur Reclamation and Simic Flash, the sideboard is geared for those matchups.

Roberts wrapped things up going over how he builds decks and in particular, why the Jund Midrange deck has as many two- and three-ofs instead of traditional four-ofs. Fore more content from Roberts, check out his stream at twitch.tv/JdoubleR2.
