Potential New Art For MTG’s Atraxa And Breya Surfaces

Two legends from Commander 2016 appear to be getting new illustrations

Possible alternate art for Atraxa, Praetors’ Voice and Breya, Etherium Shaper allegedly found in the assets of MTG Arena showed up on the Magic TCG subreddit yesterday.

User KEMy__99 posted the images of the new art, claiming the files indicated they were card sleeve images due to their names beginning with “CardBack.” They accessed the files using Asset Studio with the 2020.3.12f1 version of Unity.

Many user speculated on the images coming from a potential Streets of New Capenna Secret Lair or Commander product. The art for Atraxa looks similar to the golden age treatment previewed from the new set with an Art Deco feel. The Breya art looks straight out of a gangster film with an Etherium-based fedora.

Previous Secret Lair drops have had corresponding MTG Arena card sleeves, so the theory that they could be following that model makes sense. That leads to the question of what kind of Secret Lair would include two of the original four-color legends from Commander 2016?

What do you think of the new art? Where do you think the art will be used?
