Sorry for the delay yesterday, folks – StarCity was down thanks to server problems again. We know you’re tired of StarCity’s slow response time… And so are we. That’s why we’re shelling out the shekels to get a separate database server that should improve the speed of articles, the main page, and all the other major goodies we have planned.
So to make sure that everybody gets to see yesterday’s articles, we’re leaving them up and will resume our normal service tomorrow. Sorry, and sorry.
In other news, as webmaster I’ve already made some fairly large changes to the site that are mostly transparent to you. (On the bright side, I now have a way of accessing how many times each article is read, which in turn will allow me to decide what sorts of articles you people like to read – and which authors are our most popular.)
This week, I’ll be working on changing the Yesterday’s Update link at the top (yes, I know it’s broken), improving the look of some of the site by fixing pictures, and getting the site ready for the Big Database switch. Next week comes the big push of preparing the site for the”click on links” – click on the card for Aven Windreader, for example, to get the card’s picture, what it does, and some other information. This is a lot trickier than it appears, but I estimate we’ll have it done within three weeks or so… And once we get that down, that lays the foundation for some really major changes we’re planning that will rock your world.
No, really, I’m not kidding – StarCity’s always catered to a casual crowd, which is lovely and we don’t intend to stop that. But what I now want to do is to come up with some ways to help the serious players hone their skills… And I’m not just talking articles. I’ve got some ideas that should help you all to figure out what the best decks are, how to pool your knowledge, how to play better.
I’ve got some pretty psychotic ideas to help all of the tourney-circuit folks, and now that I have this site at my disposal and the servers to power it, all that’s holding me back is my own knowledge.
Watch for some cool changes over this spring and summer. If you’ve got anything you’d like to see, drop me an email.
