Casey Miller won the Regional Championship at SCG CON Minneapolis with Jeskai Control on Sunday.

While the deck of the tournament might have been Izzet Prowess, Miller put his mark on the event by overcoming more than 1,300 players with his build of Jeskai Control. In just his second Day-2 appearance at a Regional Championship, Miller took home the title while securing his first invites to a Pro Tour and a World Championship.

After a 7-2 start on Day 1, Miller fired off five straight wins on Sunday before drawing into the Top 8 as the No. 4 seed. Once in the Top 8, Miller took down back-to-back opponents on Izzet Prowess to reach the finals. Michael DeBenedetto-Plummer, on Jeskai Oculus, made his way to the finals by taking out two players on Azorius Omniscience in the quarters and semis.

The two flavors of Jeskai squared off for one last match, leaving the 447 players on Izzet Prowess in the dust. Miller took a quick Game 1 after DeBenedetto-Plummer took a mulligan to five but DeBenedetto-Plummer evened the score when Miller failed to find a third land in Game 2, setting up a third and final game to end the tournament. Both players kept seven and traded blows, but Miller pulled ahead with multiple copies of Stock Up with Shiko, Paragon of the Way offering a second helping of card selection.

DeBenedetto-Plummer continued to fill his graveyard and threaten powerful plays, but multiple copies of Kutzil’s Flanker kept the graveyard in check while trading off in combat to provide huge value. With DeBenedetto-Plummer’s offense contained, Miller closed the door with the legendary dragon to claim the trophy.

Jeskai Control only made up a little more than five percent of the field, but Miller showed off the power of the deck in a field of aggressive archetypes.

Day 2 consisted of 328 players that reached 18 match points on Day 1. See how the archetypes converted below.
