Tariq Zahzam has had a long weekend of Magic. His friend Alex Bertoncini was at the tournament hall late Saturday night, busy winning the title of Standard champion. On Sunday, in Legacy, it was Tariq’s turn. He ran the tables in the Top 8 after making the cut to the single elimination rounds in a commanding 2nd place. His Blue-Green Fish powered through two Bant decks and the mirror.
Meeting him in the finals was Calosso Fuentes. Fuentes’ Counter-Top deck had lost only two matches on the weekend. Unfortunately for him, they were all against the players who would face him in the Finals: William Greer and Tariq Zahzam. When Tariq got the Semis dubya, it was all but good night for poor Fuentes.
After a record shattering weekend with the largest StarCityGames.com Standard Open and largest StarCityGames.com Legacy Open as well as the first player to secure two byes for the StarCityGames.com Invitational (Aaron Wayne), Tariq Zahzam is your StarCityGames.com Legacy Open Champion in Richmond!

William Greer sat down to the Semifinals after a Fish mirror match in the Quarters. Funnily enough, that was exactly what he could expect in the Semifinals as his opponent, Tariq Zahzam, was also playing Fish.
Not only does the StarCityGames.com Open Series offer great prizes, but players also earn Open Points that qualify them for the StarCityGames.com Invitational, earn byes, and give them a shot at the Player of the Year title!
Aaron Wayne entered the Feature Match in Round 6 the leader of the StarCityGames.com Open Player of the Year race. He had a good chance to rack up more points today, but he would have to take down Chris Lynch running TPS to keep that hope alive.
Brian Diefendorf’s Boss Naya deck had mowed through more than one Jund deck on the weekend. That spelled bad news for Alex Bertoncini, who just happened to be playing Jund himself.
One of two Boss Naya decks to make the cut to the final rounds of battle, Brian was hoping he could overcome the Jund menace in the hands of young Wes Murphy.
For Thomas Albin and Dan Samson, the Feature Match for the ninth round of the day, 561 players had melted away to just the two of them. A win and they could potentially draw in.
Bill Stark sits down to chat with Shaheen Soorani to talk to the renowned player and deckbuilder about his thoughts on Standard, Worldwake, and the StarCityGames.com Open series.
To get a feel for how the latest set, Worldwake, has been doing I spoke with the buying and selling crew from StarCityGames.com to see what the hottest new cards have been on the weekend.
