Announcement: Introducing SCG Free

SCG Free is a streamlining of our non-Premium content. A blueprint for our daily articles, structured with the players in mind, provided free of charge. You wanna know more? The information is inside…

One of the criticisms levelled at us here at StarCityGames.com, especially since the introduction of Premium content, is that we don’t do enough for our non-Premium visitors.

“What happened to all the free articles?”

StarCityGames.com doesn’t care about the community!”

“I used to visit your website every day, but now there’s nothing free that’s worth reading!”

We listen to these complaints, of course. They’re impossible to ignore. While we believe that Premium is a true boon to the dedicated Magic player, we haven’t hardened our hearts — or minds — to those readers who are unwilling or unable to subscribe

We’ve taken stock, and listened to your grievances. We think it’s time to tighten up our non-Premium format, give it shape and form.

I’m please to announce a streamlining of our non-Premium content.

From today, we begin “SCG Free.”

SCG Free is a series of daily columns, each headed by one of our current Feature Writers. Each column tackles an aspect of Magic, from Limited to Constructed, from budget decks to Magic Online to fully-fledged tournament preparation.

Today’s column, on Limited Magic for Beginners, is by the Ferrett. It currently focuses on Ravnica Sealed Deck, but where it grows from there is anyone’s guess.

Here is a rundown of the SCG Free weekly schedule:

Monday: The Ferrett, writing on Limited Magic for Beginners.
Tuesday: Chris Romeo, with his popular From Right Field budget deckbuilding column.
Wednesday: blisterguy, examining Magic Online.
Thursday: Abe Sargent, sharing his thoughts on Multiplayer and casual formats.
Friday: Sean McKeown, bringing us the low-down on Tournament Magic.

With SCG Free, we’re bringing you a framework. Any visitors looking for Limited Magic tips will find them each and every Monday. Readers searching for budget deck ideas now know they’ll be available each Tuesday. And so on throughout the week.

Add to this our SCG Daily column, plus extra free content added as and when available, and you have a commitment from StarCityGames.com to bring exceptional Magic coverage, day in and day out. We’re determined to create the best damn Magic website we can, making a daily visit to our pages a necessity for anyone who plays the game.

SCG Free. Daily, dependable content. Free of charge.

(And if you want more… there’s Premium too. Just in case you’ve forgotten.)

(Note: I’d love to claim the credit for the SCG Free idea — the first act of the New Guy, and all that. Unfortunately for my ego, this was planned before I arrived, instigated by Ted, Ferrett, Ben, and Pete. I’ve had my input, of course, but I feel like the guy who turns up late to the meeting with a box of donuts and a sheepish grin.)
