Who Wanted A Type II Pro Tour?

This November. A Type II Pro Tour. Sounds like a birthday present to me! (My birthday is in November, yes. I have a disturbing driver’s license to prove it, too). Well, that’s what I call good news! This November. A Type II Pro Tour. Sounds like a birthday present to me! (My birthday is in November, yes. I have a disturbing driver’s license to prove it, too).

Well, that’s what I call good news! After months of petitioning, the DCI has announced that Type II will enter the regular Pro Tour lineup. I’ve only got one thing to say.

WOO-HOO!

For the first time since PT Dallas, we’ll see the best players in the world developing a cogent metagame for the best format ever designed. And, we’ll get to play, too!

Just as exciting as the Type II Pro Tour is the series of Type II PTQs. Type II PTQs. You know what this means?

Friday Night Magic rocks! It’s going to be useful *and* popular. Because of it, the PTQs, Regionals, States, Nationals and Worlds, we are going to have a metagame! And trust me, if you’ve only been playing a couple years, and have kept up mainly with the higher level of Magic, you have no idea how deep a metagame can go. It’s actually very interesting and amazing. The last time there was anything like it was around Nationals of 96. Coming off of the strong Type II Tour, and several big tournaments, the format had been extensively tested. Only in very deep metagames can you see a deck like Turbo-Stasis win. People will want to keep up with Type II, because the next big tournament will always be around the corner.

MMM… metagame.

How exciting! It can really get intricate, when you’ve got it perpetually going. Every week. A whole new local scene could pop up, as Friday Night Magic becomes a proving ground for Saturday Morning PTQs. Exciting. I’m actually giddy. Or, as close to that as possible, considering I’m a writer.

Speaking of giddy, I’m going to swing by the nine inch nails concert in Maryland tonight. They’re one of my favorite acts, even though they didn’t book a concert in Virginia, this time. I haven’t seen them in a couple of years; it’s going to be a lot of fun. So, if you see me there, face down in the mosh pit, please be kind enough to peel me off the ground– you can keep my wallet.

Back to the Type II Pro Tour. I’d like to thank the DCI and, especially, Jeff Donais, for recognizing and fixing the problem. Though, in the past, many people have doubted that the DCI actually listens to players, I can certainly tell you that they do. After talking with Jeff in Seattle, it became very apparent that the DCI is run by a competent, caring individual. The most important thing I took away from talking with him is that he sees both the good and the bad directed to the DCI. He sees the logical appeals as well as the swearing-filled rants, and he reacts the same as any logical person would. If you’ve got something to say about the DCI, or its policies, remember to write it the same way you’d want to be addressed, were someone coming to you with a complaint.

Lastly, I’d like to thank the following people, who signed the petition. Also, there were several people who asked to sign it, after I had sent it to the DCI. I’d like to thank them too. Without your support, none of this could have happened.
