Friday, June 4th – Going into Round 1 of Pro Tour: San Juan, Cedric Phillips had one goal in mind: avoid Mono Red. His weapon of choice had fine matchups across the board, but scooped ‘em up to the aggro burn strategy. After five rounds of play, Ced was feeling good… find out why inside!

Friday, June 4th – Most Magic content on the web is dedicated to the awesomeness of winning Magic tournaments, and it’s an awesome feeling to be sure, even at the lower levels where I’ve chalked up my victories. Yet the coolest things about Magic are actually what happen around and outside of tournaments—the Magic Community, the connections you make with people you might not have ever had the chance to interact with if it wasn’t for this awesome game. I wanted to share some of those cool things today.
Friday, June 4th – In today’s edition of Duel With Ruel, Antoine pits the fabulous UWr Planeswalkers deck against Manu with Mythic Conscription. Both decks have proved themselves in high-level tournament play… Will one of these builds take home the prize at the StarCityGames.com Open in Philadelphia this weekend?
Thursday, June 3rd – For Pro Tour: San Juan, Sam Black believes his team created the best deck in the Block Constructed format. Today, he examines the genesis of the deck, and discusses the considerations that went into its strategic plans. While the format is largely dead, the preparation is something that can inform our playtesting processes and help us improve as players.
Thursday, June 3rd – While the tournament itself didn’t go too well, Craig Wescoe still had a blast in Puerto Rico. He shares his preparation, decklist, and fun stories today, alongside his thoughts on the possible direction of a Shards-free Standard format…
Thursday, June 3rd – The StarCityGames.com Philadelphia Legacy Open occurs this Sunday, June 6th. The preparation will be frantic this week, but knowing what to be ready for is very important. While no one can accurately predict the metagame this Sunday, there is a great deal of information about previous Legacy Opens that should provide a useful starting point.
Thursday, June 3rd – I desperately want to get to Level 4 this year. You could call me a man on a mission. With 8 points so far for the season from two GP top 12s, I decided the best plan of attack was to go on a swing of Grand Prix: Washington D.C., Pro Tour: San Juan, Grand Prix: Sendai, and Grand Prix: Manila.
Wednesday, June 2nd – When we last left our hero, I was 7-1-1 after Day 1 of Grand Prix: D.C., the largest North American tournament in quite some time. With over 200 people making the cut for Day 2, there was sure to be plenty of competition, and I was ready for it.

Wednesday, June 2nd – Gerry Thompson built the Naya aggro deck that stormed U.S. National Qualifiers. Recognizing that Vengevine is completely insane against Jund and U/W control decks, Gerry built an aggressive deck designed such that Bloodbraid Elf cascades nearly always triggered Vengevine. Then he added the combination of Cunning Sparkmage and Basilisk Collar to fight other creature-based strategies.
Wednesday, June 2nd – Gerry Thompson rocked into Puerto Rico a day late without a deck to call his own, and then cruised into Day 2 play on the back of a deck he thought was terrible. Nevertheless, the fun times and good beats he had make compelling reading.
Wednesday, June 2nd – Not surprisingly, Standard is the hot topic right now in competitive Magic. Although I don’t feel as though there is a lot more to be said about this format that hasn’t already been said, it wouldn’t hurt to discuss the decks in Standard post-GP: DC and pinpoint the direction things are going. I’ve always said that playing the right deck for any given event is probably the biggest edge you can give yourself, so let’s get right to it.
