White Gets Unique Day/Night Uncommon In Gavony Dawnguard In Innistrad: Midnight Hunt

This unassuming uncommon could secretly be one of the best cards in Innistrad: Midnight Hunt

Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC), take a look at this powerful uncommon from Innistrad: Midnight Hunt — Gavony Dawnguard!

Ward 1

If it’s neither day nor night, it becomes day as Gavony Dawnguard enters the battlefield.

Whenever day becomes night or night becomes day, look at the top four cards of your library. You may reveal a creature card with mana value 3 or less from among them and put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.

Not only is Gavony Dawngaurd a reasonably statted three-mana 3/3, but it also comes equipped with built in protection thanks to ward. Most notable, however, is the inclusion of the new day and night mechanic. Gavony Dawngaurd automatically makes it day if it’s neither day nor night upon entering the battlefield, and further capitalizing on this mechanic, whenever it changes to day or night, you’ll get to look at your top four cards and snag a creature that costs three or less.

While we’ve only scratched the surface of Innistrad: Midnight Hunt previews, we’ve already seen quite a few cards that utilize day and night, so it’s likely that this card could be a major value engine, whether played by itself or when paired alongside other cards.

So what do you think of Gavony Dawngaurd? Could this card be a major role player in the new Standard metagame despite being an uncommon? Let us know what you think in the comments!
