Blue Gets New Pitch Counterspell Creature In Subtlety In Modern Horizons 2

Blue card in the cycle of pitch Elementals provides counter magic for creatures and planeswalkers.

Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and Magic Online, check out the blue Elemental Incarnation mythic rare in the cycle from Modern Horizons 2 — Subtlety!

To start, it’s a four-mana 3/3 flyer with flash, but that’s not what makes the cards in this new cycle pop.

Subtlety

When Subtlety enters the battlefield, choose up to one target creature spell or planeswalker spell. Its owner puts it on the top or bottom of their library.

Evoke — Exile a blue card from your hand.

The evoke cost for all the cards in the cycle will be exiling a card of its color from your hand and Subtlety’s effect when it enters the battlefield is anything but. Subtlety has an Aether Gust-type effect but for all colors of spells as long as they’re creatures or planeswalkers. Now blue can handle noncreature spells when it’s tapped out with Force of Negation and creatures with Subtlety (and Subtlety even works on its controller’s turn unlike Force of Negation).

Pitch counter spells have proven themselves worth the price over the history of the game, so it’s safe to say Subtlety will make an impact. And of course, players can just pay four mana for Subtlety to get the effect and a 3/3.

What do you think of Subtlety? Is it stronger or weaker than Greif? Let us know in the comments!
