Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and Aaron Forsythe, check out the long awaited legendary creature mentioned in Alpha making its debut in Modern Horizons 2 — Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar!
Ever since the reference to Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar in the flavor text of Granite Gargoyle in Alpha, Magic fans have wanted more information on the character. She eventually starred in a novel and ended up on more cards via flavor text. Well, she is finally here along with her often mentioned Underworld Cookbook. She comes in three versions, including an old border variant and an borderless variant.
Due to the length of Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar’s name, a casting cost couldn’t fit on the card, so instead she comes with a one-mana cost of either black or red mana as long you have discarded a card this turn. Notably, Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar can be played off Aether Vial with no counters on it.
Right on flavor, Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar lets you tutor up a copy of The Underworld Cookbook when she enters the battlefield, providing immediate value by replacing the card discarded to play her. If the deck is heavy on self discard effects, you get more material to manipulate in hand or a useful artifact that creates Food tokens.
Take a look at the normal version and old border variant of The Underworld Cookbook.
Once you get The Underworld Cookbook going, turn those Food tokens into removal! Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar will play well with other Food generators as well if you happen to get rid of the Cookbook.
After you’re finished cooking up Food tokens, feel free to cash in the book itself to return a creature from your graveyard to your hand. The value train never stops with Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar and her cookbook engine.
What do you think of Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar? Does she fit right into a Hollow One type deck or can she create a new hybrid food/discard type of deck? Let us know in the comments!
