As part of an ongoing series of weekly changes, Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has announced the updates and changes for Week 1 of Dominaria United on Magic Online.

Magic Online To Offer Best-Of-One Dominaria United Drafts

After years of success on MTG Arena, Magic Online is going to offer Best-Of-One Draft Leagues for a limited time for Dominaria United. Starting on Thursday, and running for two weeks, players can enter a Best-Of-One Draft League and play until they reach seven wins or three losses. Entry fee is the same as a normal Draft League: pick from 12 event tickets, 120 play points, or three Dominaria United booster packs and two event tickets.

Limited Challenges Start This Weekend

Starting this weekend, there will be two Limited Challenges every Saturday and Sunday. The Challenges at 1 AM will require 32 players to fire and the noon Challenges will require 64 players to start. The 1 AM Challenges are six rounds and the noon Challenges are seven rounds. These Challenges won’t have Top 8 playoffs. Each Limited Challenge costs 40 event tickets or 400 play points. More details can be found here.

Treasure Chest Updates

Big changes are coming to the Treasure Chests. A new category in Treasure Chests will show up every one in four chests — the TC only category. These slots will include cards not found in booster packs. More cards are being injected into the Treasure Chests to help players get the cards they need. This includes all the initiative cards as well as some of the background cards from Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate. This means Legacy players will be able to find Minsc & Boo, Timeless Heroes, Maddening Hex, and more!

With the addition of Dominaria United coming to the client, Treasure Chests will also have Dominaria United‘s Commander cards, the five cards from the Dominaria United Jumpstart Boosters, as well as the 20 mechanically unique Box Toppers. More information on the Treasure Chest updates can be found here.

League Matchmaking Changes

As part of the effort to fight win trading in leagues, particularly Vintage and Standard, Magic Online is removing the “join match” button in leagues. After you click play, your match will start after an opponent is found. This change goes into effect after tomorrow’s downtime.
