Disney’s Lorcana TCG (Trading Card Game) is on display this weekend at the GAMA Expo in Reno, Nevada. The game’s developer, Ravensburger, disclosed a ton of new information regarding the game’s distribution and organized play, and also displayed starter decks, 40-card demo decks, and gave attendees a first-hand look at the card’s foiling treatment.
Organized Play
According to the developers, local game stores will have the option to host league or tournament events. Organizers will also be provided software designed to aid in running these events. Stores hosting Lorcana events can also acquire Organized Play kits for free, which will include foil promos, posters and stickers for tracking points, and more. Unlike most TCGs, Lorcana reportedly has no plans to host Prerelease events at this time, citing potential logistical issues.
Gearing Up for Launch
In order to discourage scalping and hoarding, Ravensburger has dropped the “1st edition” designation from cards. There will also be no reserve list, meaning any card can be reprinted as seen fit, for the purpose of keeping the game affordable and accessible. Throughout launch and for the foreseeable future, Lorcana will have a dedicated customer service team for addressing misprints and quality issues.
Foiling Treatment
Courtesy of The Illumiteers on YouTube, we get a first-hand look at Lorcana’s foiling treatment.
The process, known as cold foiling, leaves the cards with a slightly more matte and textured appearance, while still maintaining that sought after sheen. Cold foils are also designed not to warp or curl, which is a huge selling point over normal rainbow foils.
New Cards
Three new cards were revealed during Ravensburger’s presentation, which you can check out below.
Mickey Mouse – Musketeer is a six-cost, 2/7 that quests for two lore. While this Steel-aligned Mickey is low in strength, it makes up for it in willpower, which compliments his Bodyguard ability. In addition to protecting your other characters, Mickey also gives an additional +1 strength to your other Musketeer characters.
The Beast is Mine is a three-cost action that introduces a new keyword – Reckless. A character who has reckless cannot quest and must challenge instead if they are able to. The Beast is Mine can be used in a number of different ways, like preventing an opposing character from questing or forcing them into an unfavorable challenge. Being that reckless is a keyword, there will be likely be characters that have it organically, so we could see it used as a way to balance powerful effects.
Be Our Guest is a two-cost action-song that allows you to look at the top four cards of your deck, then reveal a character from among them and put it into your hand, with the rest going on the bottom. This amber-aligned action already has a great effect for the price, but being that a character with cost two or more can sing to cast it for free makes it even more powerful.

Lorcana’s The First Chapter is scheduled to release on August 18 in local game stores and September 1 for mass-market retail.
