It’s been over a month since we’ve seen new cards from Disney’s highly-anticipated trading card game (TCG), Lorcana, but the drought is over! Check out Genie, Beast, Archimedes, and Rafiki!
Genie, On the Job, is a six-cost Storyborn-Ally with three strength and four willpower. While six resources is a steep investment for a 3/4, this emerald-aligned Genie comes equipped with evasive, making it difficult to answer through a challenge. Genie also has the disappear ability, which allows you to return any chosen character to their player’s hand when played. Genie seems like a strong late-game play that can help you to slow opposing threats, especially at the uncommon rarity.
Next up is Beast, Wolfsbane, a rare, five-cost 4/4 with the rush ability, which allows it to challenge the turn it’s played. Combine that with the roar ability, which force exerts all opposing damaged characters when it’s played, and you’ve got a recipe for a seriously strong mid-game threat that can clear out key opposing glimmers.
Over on the amethyst side, we’ve got our first Rafiki card – a three-cost 3/3 with rush. While questing for just one lore is a bit underwhelming, The Mysterious Sage has decently balanced stats and at common-rarity, it’s a good early-to-mid game challenger. It’s also important to note that this Rafiki cannot be used as an ink resource.
Lastly, we have Archimedes, Highly Educated Owl. This Dreamborn-Ally is a vanilla one-cost 2/2 with no accompanying abilities. This is a simple, early-game glimmer that will likely be used as a resource in your inkwell, or quest for a few lore before it is inevitably challenged.
So what do you think of these new cards? Is Beast as beastly as it seems? Let us know what you think in the comments on Facebook and Twitter.
Lorcana’s The First Chapter is scheduled to release on August 18 in local game stores and September 1 for mass-market retail.
