SCG Weekend Preview: #SCGNASH & #SCGMA

Legacy returns this Sunday at SCG Open Series: Nashville! A Standard Classic Series will also be taking place on Saturday in Springfield, Massachusetts!

The eagerly anticipated return of Legacy happens in Nashville, a city known for its storied heritage, this weekend! After a month-long hiatus to make way for the exciting introduction of Return to Ravnica Block Sealed and Team Sealed, as well as give our players a few weeks to try out Dragon’s Maze in Standard, it is finally time to introduce the 166 new cards to the Open Series’ Eternal format. Will Voice of Resurgence, Sin Collector, Ral Zarek, or any of the other goodies from Dragon’s Maze make a splash? Well, if you want to find out, come on down!

The StarCityGames.com Open Series heads down to Nashville, where everyone goes to become a star, for Standard and Legacy on May 18 and 19. Our stars will be crowned at the Nashville Convention Center:

Nash Venue

This will be my first time at this particular location, as previous events in Nashville that I’ve been a part of have always been at the Gaylord Opryland. The Grand Ol’ Opry was certainly unique (how many tournament sites have you been to that had indoor boat ride attractions?), but since it’s a resort the food was either expensive or far away—or both. No longer! Located right along the Cumberland Riverfront, plenty purveyors of provisions are patiencly pending your payment for…food. Sorry, ran out of P words. Anyhoo, here’s a brief list for you:

Many talented threesomes have come through Nashville before, like The Supremes, The Dixie Chicks, and Wilson Phillips. But our trio of alterists this weekend has more of a visual slant to their talents!

First up is Amber Musick! Amber will be at this event offering her custom full art playmats and tokens as well as creating new works of art and customizing your playmat with original art. Pricing and her current offering of playmats can be found on her deviantART page.

Next in line is Lindsay Burley! Lindsay will be selling and creating her unique brand of 3-D cards and tokens as well as custom playmats. Check out her work here.

Last, but certainly not least, is Blake Meade! Blake will be selling and taking orders for altered cards and custom playmats at this event. Take a look at some of his work on his blog.

You should go. Really. It’ll be a good time. How do I know? Because I’ll be there! As part of the @SCGLive crew, which of course has the best live Magic: The Gathering coverage on the net, I’ll be delivering Premium Grade A Magic content alongside Adrian Sullivan and Osyp Lebedowicz! If you can’t go, I’m so very sorry. But there is good news! You can watch all of the coverage provided by our team at home and stay abreast of all of the comings and goings via social media using the hashtag #SCGNASH on Twitter. Also, follow @SCGOpenPairings to see up-to-the-nanosecond pairings and standings.

Simultaneously on Saturday, the StarCityGames.com Classic Series will be visiting Shelbyville’s rival city: Springfield, Massachusetts!

Once more, we have plentiful (there’s another P word!) food options in the vicinity. Most of them are fast food though, so if you’re like me and try to avoid playing Mono-Fast Food Control, you’ll have to lean heavily on Subway or sack lunches.

We have dos artistas joining us for Saturday in Springfield!

Our first alterist is Jaclyn Foglia! Jaclyn is an up and coming artist on the SCG circuit and will be painting and selling her custom card alterations at this event. You can find her collection of work here.

Our second alterist is Xela Shultis! Xela is a Springfield native who is presenting her work at a StarCityGames.com event for the very first time at the Classic on Saturday. I’m sure she’s excited to be joining us, so be sure to make her feel at home!

No live coverage for the Classic as per usual, but you can follow the action on Twitter at hashtag #SCGMA and see up-to-the-millisecond pairings and standings by following @SCGClassic.

Good luck, have fun, and hit those high notes!
