I’m Seattle-bound on the StarCityGames.com Open Series tour, following a fantastic weekend in Detroit and preceding the Prerelease for Magic 2013.
Awesome!
It’s been a while since I’ve made a trip out to Seattle, but I’m very happy to be doing so once again. In fact, I just got my US Airways complimentary upgrade to first class as I write this—how lucky! Hopefully the run-goods continue, and we have a nice, sunny sky on the horizon for this trip.
I know your tricks, Seattle.
We’ve got a few different hotel options for players making the trip from outside the area, with the Best Western: Alderwood at 19332 36th Ave W in Lynnwood offering rooms for $74/night with mention of "StarCityGames." You can also find lodging at the Residence Inn — Seattle North/Lynnwood on 18200 Alderwood Mall Parkway.
Both of those are pretty close to the venue, which is in Lynnwood and not "Seattle proper." In fact, it’s the Lynnwood Convention Center!
Players, if you’re in need of cards, order them now. We’re packing our stock up for a cross-country trip, but if you can get your order in by noon on Thursday—the date of this posting—and select the Event Pickup option in shipping, then we’ll be happy to get you those cards with no shipping charge. Just waltz up to the sales booth before registration and grab your order! We can’t bring everything, so guarantee we’ll have what you want with an order.
Over the course of a long day on-site, you’re going to get hungry. Make sure you go west for food! Options are dismal to the north and south, with the east being non-existent. If you exit the convention center on the south side and head west, you’ll see Tacos Guayamos and the Silver Spoon Thai Restaurant just a quick jog away. Keep going for a block and you’ll have many more options: Chipotle, Panda Express, Gyros Delight, Denny’s, The Rock Wood Fired Pizza, Local Yolk Cafe, and KFC.
Bon appetit!
San Francisco resident and renowned Magic illustrator Jason Felix will be joining us in Seattle this weekend. Jason’s been working with Wizards and producing top-notch card art since Zendikar, including hits such as Creeping Tar Pit, Archive Trap, and All is Dust—along with many more. Check out his website to see more from Jason!
Alterist Miranda Roberts will also join the SCG Open Series in Seattle, bringing her particular brand of painted alters to the tournament floor. Miranda’s specialization lies in full alters and extending the art to create beautiful, "borderless" cards for your playing pleasure. Check out her gallery on her Facebook page, and you can message that page or her email ([email protected]) for commission information.
This weekend is another @SCGLive debut for our commentator corral, with Joey Pasco welcoming Marshall Sutcliffe into the booth. You should remember Marshall from his incredible work during Pro Tour Dark Ascension, and we’re all excited to welcome him aboard this weekend.
If you’d like to get in touch with Marshall, Joey, myself, or our video director, all you have to do is tag your post with #SCGSEA. We monitor the Twitters pretty regularly, and it’s proven to be a uniquely useful way to interact with the community. Deck techs, feature matches, guests—whatever you guys want, sound off and we will try to deliver.
