p1p2 I decided to change it up a bit and take Finks over Bolt. I think the pick is close either way.

p1p4 I took Farhaven Elf over Cultbrand Cinder since I think it fits best with Scuttlemutt and Finks. This could’ve easily been wrong as my initial thought was to take Cinder.

p1p5 Ghastbark fits no matter what while Sentry requires me to stick to White.

p1p8 Dragoon over Spriggan because I have a lot of three-drops already and acceleration and Spriggan dies to so much.

p2p3 Blessing over Cohort because I wasn’t totally sure I was committed to White yet. Pretty sure but Blessing will be awesome no matter what happens in this draft and Cohort is iffy.

p3p1 I can’t see reliably casting Divinity of Pride in this deck so Snakeform seems like the better pick.

p3p2 I didn’t really have good solutions to fliers at this point so I took Pouncer over Hatchling.

I feel like I was very well positioned in this draft and really reaped the rewards in pack 3.

I considered splashing for Elemental Mastery and also the Tattermunge Witch ability but was content with getting Red mana solely from Morselhoarder and Scuttlemutt.

Round 1 was against mono Black. Game 1 we both played some guys and he oddly Beseeched the Queen for Soot Imp. I end up wrecking him with Snakeform and Inquisitor’s Snare in the same combat step and then untapping to play Elder which kills his Trip Noose. Scuzzback Marauders goes the distance from here. I sided out Barkshell Blessing for Last Breath as it seemed far better in this matchup. I also considered bringing in Gloomwidow’s Feast but decided against it as all I saw was Soot Imp. Game 2 my opponent has a beatdown draw involving two Fang Skulkins which makes me wish I brought in Gleeful Sabotage. He ends up wrecking me with Gloomlance and then topdecks very well when we’re both flooded to win. For game 3 I bring in the Sabotage and then mulligan on the play. I get stuck on 2 lands but eventually draw a third and he isn’t putting too much pressure on me. Prison Term shuts down Dusk Urchins while I try to gain control with Soot Imp onboard. Once I stabilize he’s the one who ends up getting flooded this game and I’m able to win on the back of Aerie Ouphes taking out his Soot Imp.

Round 2 my opponent was WU. Game 1 he started with Ballynock Cohort Endless Horizons and Divinity of Pride. Despite this busted opening I’m in complete control with Trapper Scuzzback Recumbent Bliss and Ghastbark. Then he Flame Javelins my Trapper for the full six colorless and things aren’t looking as good since I only have one Plains with Prison Term in hand. I end up keeping parity until I draw the Plains and feel pretty good until he topdecks Godhead of Awe with Steel of the Godhead on his Cragtreads. He ends up killing me with Cenn’s Enlistment in a game that I was almost certain that I’d won. If I only had an Ember Gale… I sided in Gloomwidow’s Feast happily here. Game 2 was very quick as he played Endless Horizons but then didn’t do much as I beat him down with some guys and Barkshell Blessing. Game 3 I obviously mulliganed to 4 before seeing a single land. The tough fight it out and although I was disgusted with Magic at this point I played my best game and somehow won!

I was stunned for a solid 15 minutes after the game. I’m guessing my opponent just got very flooded as he ended the game with four cards in hand. I played some guys traded with his stuff and then Wickerbough Elder and Hoof Skulkin stuck on board and attacked a few times after I’d Prison Term’d his Knacksaw Clique. That was fun!

Round 3 my opponent was playing UBR. Game 1 I pummelled him with guys and he didn’t do a lot except play Soul Reap and Scar. His final attempt to Firespout was thwarted by Barkshell Blessing. Game 2 I played some guys and either Pacified or killed everything he played while totally bulldozing him. This match felt great after winning from a four-card mulligan.

Until tomorrow…

Nick
