So here we are at the end of the Financial Value of Journey Into Nyx. The last two rares were spoiled overnight, along with every other common/uncommon from the set! Let’s go over the last two cards from the set, and then look at which cards are the best sellers so far during the preorder period.
How I review:
Starting Price: The first price we assign to the card as a preorder.
Current Price: The current price of the card by the time this article goes live.
Future Price (Short Term): The price I believe the card will be at before Magic Online redemptions go live for Born of the Gods.
Future Price (Medium Term): The price I believe the card will be at by the time the next set (M15) comes out.
Future Price (Long Term): The price I believe the card will be at a year from now when the next spring set is released (name unknown still, but probably [Something] of Khanar).

Interesting as a casual card, but generally bulk.
Well, wasn’t that worth the wait! Fair enough that the last two rares spoiled were less-than-spectacular, given the initial cracking value ($117.90) average per box (see yesterday’s article).
Here’s some last thoughts about Journey Into Nyx:
- This is a very strong set. The mythics, rares and uncommons are all a step above Born of the Gods, and so the value of opening a pack is going to be higher than an average set release.
- I’m very bullish on Replenish from Urza’s Destiny. I don’t know how well or how badly constellation will work in Standard, but there’s a Dredge/Replenish engine waiting to be broken in Legacy.
- Constellation triggers on Enchantments entering the battlefield, and not on “playing” them, as is the case with most enchantress cards.
- Between Eidolon of Blossoms (draw a card), Agent of Erebos (kill your opponent’s graveyard), Doomwake Giant (kill your opponent’s creatures), Forgeborn Oreads (kill your opponent), Grim Guardian (kill your opponent), Skybind (kill your opponent’s entire board for the turn you’re trying to combo off), and Thoughtrender Lamia (kill your opponent’s hand), you have a Replenish that is basically allowing you to draw a ton of cards while removing your opponent from play.
- Dictate of Erebos is my choice for undervalued card in the set right now. Grave Pact is an effect that has had a ton of legs, and Dictate appeals to every player who wanted Grave Pact.
- Prophetic Flamespeaker is my choice for most overrated card in the set right now, while Keranos is my choice for card that will lose the most value between now and the next set release.
- Uncommons to watch: Banishing Light, Brain Maggot, Chariot of Victory (being ignored right now, but will be a Commander Staple), Dakra Mystic, Disciple of Deceit, Eidiolon of Rhetoric, Gnarled Scarhide, Nyx-Fleece Ram, Pull from the Deep (Commander staple), Reprisal, Ritual of the Returned, Solidarity of Heroes (doubling counters = casual favorite), Strength from the Fallen (my personal watch card from this set right now), and Tethmos High Priest.
- Commons to watch: Font of Fertility (basically Wayfarer’s Bauble), Kruphix’s Insight, Sigiled Starfish, and Triton Shorestalker (unblockable 1/1 Merfolk Rogue for one – see Morningtide!).
