Daily Digest: Soldiers Of Fortune

Want to spoil someone’s Grand Prix New Jersey from out of nowhere? Want to do it on the cheap? GerryT shows you a Legacy deck that won’t just defeat opponents–it will infuriate them.

What was once considered a joke deck might actually be a viable strategy in Legacy — Soldiers!

Cavern of Souls; Thalia, Guardian of Thraben; Suppression Field; and Chalice of the Void all provide reasonable disruption against the Legacy format.
Enlistment Officer and Captain of the Watch give you some Goblins-like card advantage. Chrome Mox, Ancient Tomb, Daru Warchief, Ballyrush Banneret, and
Preeminent Captain speed you up, allowing you to close the game before they can draw out of your soft locks.

Without acceleration, this deck is a little too slow for Legacy, so you’ll probably have to mulligan a bit aggressively. If you have a reasonable draw,
this deck actually has a lot going for it. I’d like to see a Karakas or two instead of some of the Plains, but otherwise I like this maindeck a lot.

Big creatures plus Chalice of the Void is a solid strategy against U/R Delver, and the sideboard Kor Firewalkers help that matchup even more. Personally, I
hope I don’t have to play against this deck at Grand Prix New Jersey this weekend.
