Countdown To Grand Prix Louisville: 4 Days Out – Artists Alley!

Grand Prix Louisville will feature some of the most storied and unique Magic artists we’ve ever known! See what classic illustrators are on the roster for this weekend!

Welcome back to the Grand Prix Louisville countdown blog! On Friday, I introduced you to our Guest of Honor for Grand Prix Louisville, Rob Alexander. Rob is going to be very busy signing copies of Underground Sea, Temple Garden, and all of his other fantastic artwork all weekend long in Derby City, but don’t forget the awesome playmats he’ll be bringing along as well!

Artist rk post’s Gothic stylings have appeared on some of Magic’s most famous cards over seventeen years of illustration, including Legacy and Modern favorites like Ichorid and Fulminator Mage, as well as the ever-popular Morphling. His custom tokens and playmats are popular souvenirs at any tournament he attends.

Mark Poole

One of the 25 artists who contributed to the very first Magic set, Mark Poole’s illustrations for the game include high-powered classics Ancestral Recall and Balance (as well as their later “fixed” versions, Modern cards Ancestral Vision and Restore Balance). Other notable cards include Birds of Paradise, Library of Alexandria and the original printings of Urza’s Tower, plus a new set of five basic lands printed in Commander 2016.

Dan Frazier

One of the original 25 artists for Magic, Dan Frazier contributed more than three dozen illustrations to Limited Edition Alpha, the game’s first printing, and indelibly shaped the game’s early look. His work was reprinted early and often, and he describes his home as “the house that Magic built.” His notable cards include Berserk, Enlightened Tutor, Goblin Matron, Invigorate, Mox Diamond, Mox Emerald, Mox Jet, Mox Pearl, Mox Ruby, and Mox Sapphire.

Douglas Shuler

Douglas Shuler, a veteran illustrator with more than two decades of experience, is one of the original 25 illustrators for Magic, a contributor to Limited Edition Alpha and many later sets. His iconic cards include Candelabra of Tawnos, Contract from Below, Demonic Tutor, Hypnotic Specter, Icy Manipulator, Prodigal Sorcerer, and Serra Angel.

Ken Meyer Jr

Bastien L Deharme

French-born artist Bastien L. Deharme has made his home in the USA and a name for himself with his evocative, often sensuous illustrations. He debuted with Magic: The Gathering in the Magic Origins set and is most notable for two Shadows over Innistrad rares, Asylum Visitor and Corrupted Grafstone.
