As part of their weekly update article, Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has shared details on MTG Arena’s expanded mobile experience, the launch of Strixhaven: School of Mages, and several new, in-game events.
MTG Arena on iOS & Tablets
Beginning tomorrow, March 25, players can enjoy the MTG Arena experience on iOS and tablet devices. The launch will also roll out a performance update which will improve playability for Android players as well.
Strixhaven: School of Mages Preorders
Prior to the set’s launch on April 23, players can purchase two preorder bundles on MTG Arena.
Kasmina Bundle
Players interested in purchasing the Kasmina Bundle will receive 50 packs of Strixhaven, a copy of Kasmina, Enigma Sage, and a Kasmina cosmetic card sleeve (pictured above).
Professor Onyx Bundle
The Professor Onyx Bundle has “everything you need to dive into your Strixhaven experience” including:
- Strixhaven Set Mastery Pass
- 3 Draft Tokens
- 1 Sealed Token
- 1 Copy of the Professor Onyx card and the depth art card style for it.
- 1 Professor Onyx card sleeve
- 1 Codie the Codex Pet
Previously, players would have to purchase both Bundles to receive the set-exclusive pet, but Strixhaven will only require purchase of the Professor Onyx Bundle to unlock it.
The Mystical Archive
Being previewed alongside Strixhaven are a series of 63 cards known as the Mystical Archive. The Mystical Archive is a Historic-legal expansion similar to a Historic Anthology, but the cards will be available through opening Strixhaven packs rather than a stand-alone bundle purchase. Cards from the Mystical Archive can appear as uncommon, rare, and mythic rares and do not replace the pack’s natural slots, meaning you can potentially get two rares or mythics in the same pack.
The Mystical Archive cards will also appear in physical Strixhaven products with unique alternate or Japanese-language art.
Of the Mystical Archives 63 cards, seven will be omitted from Historic play, as they’ve been deemed “too powerful”. Swords to Plowshares and Demonic Tutor (pictured above) are two such cards.
