Long-time Magic: The Gathering illustrator and concept artist, Lake Hurwitz, has died.

While details are limited, news of Hurwitz’s death was shared on social media yesterday by his wife, Daria.
Hurwitz began illustrating for Magic: The Gathering just over a decade ago with the release of Fate Reforged (2015). Since then, the Seattle-based artist amassed an extensive portfolio of nearly 70 Magic: The Gathering illustrations, including fan-favorite pieces Authority of the Consuls, Memory Deluge, and Veil of Summer.

Outside of Magic illustration, Hurwitz served as a Principal Visual Development Artist at Wizards of the Coast, and also maintained a sizeable portfolio of independent artwork which can be viewed on their Facebook and Instagram pages.

We at Star City Games send our deepest condolences to the Hurwitz family.
